One of my dad's favorite golfing stories was a day with Buddy Hackett at the Murdock Lake Golf Course. They played 18 holes together in a foursome and then Buddy held court at the 19th hole for a while.

Dad smiled every time it came up for years and years. Buddy hopped over the hill to golf with Air Force guys at Edwards AFB. Stories, jokes and enjoyment were things Buddy seemed to bring with him where he went.

Two comic geniuses. We won't see their like again.

Thoroughly enjoyed both videos, para. Immediately after watching them, I couldn't help but recall that Johnny had Bob Hope and Dean Martin on his show and then George Gobel had to follow those two legends. Hilarious. Thanks

My favorite Hackett on Carson show episode was the one where he described pulling out one of his nose hairs to induce tears. For a situation that required a sympathetic emotional response.

Edit – I'm now thinking that might've been Jonathon Winters, another GREAT comic.

I didn't see that one coming.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Back in the 80's HBO aired a standup show of Hackett's. To this day it stands out in my mind of one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. He was a master of being Buddy.

After watching the clips Para posted I sought out more Hackett stuff. Then I stumbled on these which combine Winters with Robin Williams... OMG Smile

Buddy Hackett was one of those funny men who made you laugh just when he walked out on stage, before he said a word. W.C.Fields, Groucho Marx, Jack Benny could also do that. No one now has that comic gift.

Buddy Hackett also tells my favorite joke better than anyone in the world ever could. The video quality is poor, but the comedy is pure genius:

I miss both those gentlemen. I purchased the Carson dvd set some years back. It was Christmas eve and all the kids were over to the house. I plugged in the Carson dvd's. My kids had no clue who he was, had never seen him before.
The thought it was hilarious.

Now it's been a tradition ever since we always watch the Carson dvd's. At the very least his Christmas special.

I've always been grateful I took the opportunity to introduce to my kids that piece of Americana.

I soooo miss Johnny Carson. He was sharp as a tack, and never was boring, or shameful. The folks today on the late night TV shows, haven't got a clue as to what is funny.

My parents thought they were great and I am lucky to have been exposed to them on TV while they were in their prime. All part of The Greatest Generation and served in WWII - Winters in USMC, Hackett in USA, and Carson in USN.

Even a " bomb-o!" Carson show was 100 times better than the horseshit that is on these days. It was easier when everyone wasn't offended, or at least laughed it off, since everyone took their turn being the butt of jokes.
