No such luck: the bakery buys their sugar at Costco.

My local COSTCO is located in Coralville, Iowa, basically a suburb of Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa, which has the largest number of foreigners in a 50 mile radius. When I visit the store once or so a month it is often being inundated by groups of 4-6 people not speaking English, traveling about in groups with several carts buying large quantities of similar foods. By my notion it would appear that COSTCO, at least in my area, seems to cater to and encourage this type of business. And yes, I also see the small business owners purchasing larger quantities of "raw materials" for their wares. If the prices there are less than their wholesale suppliers offer that is just good business practice on their part.

My family immigrated to the US from Cuba in 1968. First time we went to a grocery store was pretty amazing, there were items on the shelves that you could get without needing a "ticket" to buy them. Unlimited shopping too. (What would have it been like if there was a Costco back then...)

Pretty amazing country this U.S.A.

We have at least two Costco stores here stocking goat quarters in the freezer section.

Glad to see some diversity. Very little in the South. One Christmas I was totally unable to find a goose to cook. Lamb is also hard to find.

The Davenport , Iowa store that I frequent gets Mennonites from as far away as Sterling , Rock falls on a regular basis.

Usually between four to six women in a mini van , but sometimes they bring a full size van and pack them to the hills.

Went to the Costco in Hiroshima Japan a bit ago. They sell "Roaster Chickens", and the label is in english, although there is a Kanji next to it. It was noted by someone that the Japanese who were shopping at Costco were fatter than the norm:-)

I was a little shocked to see goat carcasses hanging in the freezer section of my COSTCO. I wouldn't have thought anyone near here would want that much goat meat. Demographics are changing around here for sure.

In reference to the pie post above: who else has bought one of COSTCO's enormous pumpkin pies for six dollars? That has to be a loss leader.

I bought one once. I won’t again, tasted like a $6 giant pumpkin pie.

The new Costco in Avon, Indiana (suburb bordering Indianapolis west side) gets a mix of white, hispanic, Indian, East and SE Asian, and African immigrants. We are getting a lot of Nigerian immigrants in the past few years.

East Asian women love Costco. And that is largely because the fresh meat and seafood are a lot better than most other places.
