Back in February, we had an Unclaimed Property thread. I didn't post at the time, but it said that State Farm Alaska owed me money from a settlement with the State of Alaska for overcharging. I clicked submit on Alaska's website even though I thought the chance of success was very low as it was 2 moves ago and thought verification would be a PITA. I never heard a peep back. Today, I opened my mail and low and behold there was a check from the State of Alaska for a little over $30. Wow, thanks! I just found 54 bucks in my grandmothers name, who is deceased so I passed it on to my dad, and an unknown amount for my wife here in GA. She submitted an online request tonight. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

We did that at my office recently. Almost everybody had some money due. My check was for like .38c. One lady I work with, her husband used to work in another state and had several hundred that he didn’t know about. My sis in law lives in TX and her deceased father has some listed. Apparently claiming it for a deceased person in some states can be a serious hassle

^^^ Tell her to call up the office and ask. They get all kinds of people calling them to figure what they have to do in order to prove the money is theirs, and they honestly aren't trying to just hang on to the money.

A heads up to anyone that purchased electricity from a REA co-op. Even if you have moved away from there you might want to inquire if they give Capital Credits to members. If so you may be entitled to a refund from them. This explains it better than I can:http://www.rrvrea.com/home/capital-credits While not the co-op I was a member of the process should be similar. I read in their local paper that they were sending out checks and they had published a list of members with no current address. We left there in 1988. Lo and behold, I found my name there. I received a check from them in about 1989 two addresses ago and assumed that was the end. I was wrong. Just received a check, just enough to cover the Medicare deductible which I just paid out a week ago. At least I broke even. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. I believe in the principle of Due Process |
Mostly if it is a sum of money that was due you, bank account, lease deposit, utility overpayment, etc, it is merely showing you are the actual person. It might be an inheritance, or other form of property, grandmother’s diamond ring, an interest in real estate, contents of a safety deposit box, maybe, and that gets complicated. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown
