Wife & i are headed to Austin next weekend for our anniversary. 11 years, makeup for not being able to do much last year.
Looking for a good restaurant recommendation, for Saturday night. Was originally thinking III Forks (since the one in Houston closed), but we're looking for something a bit more budget friendly.
We're staying around the 183/35 area, but anywhere around town is fine. She's not the biggest BBQ or seafood fan, but if a place has alternative options, it's workable.
Still bummed that Frank & Angie's closed, it was a regular stop anytime we were in Austin. This message has been edited. Last edited by: P250UA5,

Check/search to see if the show Diner’s, Drive-Ins, and Dives has featured a local restaurant.

I came in to give this same recommendation. I've been on two cross country drives and used this website for states. I have never gone to a triple D restaurant and be disappointed. What I do is go to a state then pin those locations on my own Google map. Then I plan my trip and see which ones are along the way.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." That’s the original location and I believe they are closing the doors if they have not already.

Go online and check out the menus for the Hyde Park Bar and Grill (specifically the Duval location - the food is better) and the Moonshine Patio Bar and Grill (next to the Convention Center, but be advised: no reservations taken and the wait was 45 minutes to an hour for lunch today).

If you willing to drive to Georgetown, then Fuego Latino Gastropub is real good. I'd make sure to have a reservation

Have some snacks along to eat in the car while you’re stuck in traffic.

If you are looking for somewhere good that is unique to Austin the Chez Zee is a great restaurant. I have usually only gone for brunch, but they have great food for all meals. They are at 2222 and Mopac area. https://www.chez-zee.com/

Gloria's (Mexican and Salvadoran) downtown is amazing. Ate there a couple months ago visiting my daughter. Great bar. Not super expensive. Lots of bars downtown as well.
South Congress Cafe on South Congress is excellent. Its been a few years since I ate there but as I recall it was very good. Also its right next to Allen's Boots, thats been in business for over 40 years. SoCo is More relaxed than downtown, more of a shopping venue if your wife is looking for that.

All of the following are close to I-35 & 183 except for Odd Duck.
Chi'lantro - Korean fusion
Julie's Noodles - Chinese noodle & dumplings are their specialy. Their soup dumplings (sounds like 'siao long bao') are must-try items.
Dai Due - farm-to-table, expensive
Salt & Time - cross between a butcher shop & expensive restaurant
Salty Sow - known for their duck fat fries
Uchiko - sushi joint, slightly less expensive version of Uchi, which has long been rated as one of the best restaurants in Austin
Lima Criolla - Peruvian food, a Latin alternative to all the Tex-Mex & Mexican places
Via 313 - Detroit style pizza
Foreign & Domestic - fine dining
Odd Duck - fine dining in South-Central Austin

I might be biased here (and its pricey) but I love the Comedor. 10 page wine/beer/cocktail menu and food that Bobbly Flay loves!
Ask for Chef Amber and tell her uncle Matthew says hi.
