If you see me running try to keep up |
I didn’t renew my Prime this year so I got an email about it. I noticed it listed a discounted price for those with an EBT. So I asked myself why someone mooching off the government is wasting money to get two day shipping? If they can’t support themselves they sure don’t need to be worried about getting their purchases quicker. I suppose some people could live where it’s hard to get things and Amazon might be more economical but paying for quick shipping and other Prime benefits is a waste when they can’t support themselves. A few 'moochers' on welfare may have better gadgets, appliances and eat/drink better than we know. The outside of their home or vehicle may support their poverty image, however. If people would mind their own damn business this country would be better off. I owe no one an explanation or an apology for my personal opinion.

I generally agree with you. I think it should be stated that prime is a lot more than shipping now. Again, I agree with your sentiments.

They don’t but it makes Amazon look charitable to some and likely some sort of charitable tax kick back for Amazon. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. Well shoot. Next time I renew Prime I an going to ask for the EBT discount. If they ask me to verify it I am going to start screaming that they are racist until they just give it to me. I'm due up next November I'll let ya'll know how it works.

I’ll be “that guy”... Amazon sells household goods, detergent, diapers, food, etc. Not everything is unnecessary shit that peasants on welfare shouldn’t have access to. It is quite possible that buying legitimate items from Amazon and $6/mo for Prime is actually being more responsible with the public funds they have been given than buying those items at twice the price from Seven-Eleven or some other convenience store. Everyone loves to deride the welfare class, but everyone on it is not out to work the system. My blood pressure has been much better once I realized they are going to get the money anyway, why should I care how they spend it? What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

You don’t need Prime to buy off Amazon. Prime gets quicker shipping, access to movies and other non essentials. I’ll give people the benefit of the doubt saying they could be buying off Amazon to save money or get items they can’t find locally but to pay for faster shipping when our taxes are paying for it is abusing the system. Yes, like it or not I can’t stop the waste but I will not just accept it either. Once we accept it they’ll push the limits more and more and will never stop.

Prime isn't only about quicker shipping. Prime is also about getting free shipping without hitting order minimums, and also getting access to groceries through Prime Now/Pantry/Fresh. Being able to have groceries delivered is a substantial benefit to the poor. Bodegas, Liquor Stores, and Convenience stores thrive off of low income households--people who don't have reliable transportation or childcare logistics that allow them to head out of their neighborhoods to a supermarket. Having your groceries delivered can be both a cost and time savings compared to these neighborhood convenience stores. My Amazon Prime subscription, along with my Costco membership, is probably some of my more reasonably and responsibly spent dollars. The value derived far exceeds the dollars spent. Yes, could low income families budget and plan better to stretch their dollars further? For instance, they could bundle their purchases to hit Amazon's free shipping minimums, or plan their grocery trips out so that they don't need grocery delivery... but if poor people where proficient at planning and budgeting, they wouldn't be poor, would they?

Ummmmm not hardly. A friend of mine has 7 condos he rents out annually. He gets these people driving up in $40k+ lexus, bmw, Mercedes and they look at a $1200 a month condo and ask if he takes section 8. Guessing baby daddy is in a cash business...…...

Actually... A Prime membership is necessary to access Prime Pantry and Prime Fresh, which are Amazon's grocery delivery services, and which accept EBT/SNAP/"food stamps". Therefore if Amazon wants to collect food stamps for their grocery items, it's in their interest to offer Prime memberships at a discounted rate to folks with food stamps. Otherwise, no Prime = No Prime Pantry/Fresh = Can't spent your food stamps at Amazon (I'm not arguing that it's good that food stamp users are able to use their food stamps at Amazon. Just pointing out that the way the current system is set up, they can, but they do need a Prime membership in order to do so, so Amazon has a reason for offering these discounted Prime memberships.)

Also there are deals reserved for Prime customers. I needed to replace our microwave, 2.0 cu.ft. GE. Our old one failed one month and two weeks beyond the warranty period. I contacted GE customer service and they offered to refund what I paid for it if I replaced it with another GE branded microwave. Easy peasy EXCEPT Home Depot no longer carries GE, replaced by Magic Chef. Lowe's, out of stock and no ETA. Best Buy no bueno, an in-state appliance chain, don't like them, won't deal with them. So off to Amazon. Identical model, reserved for Prime customers only. Twenty dollars more than I paid previously but still cheaper by about fifty-sixty dollars than the other sellers and with free shipping. Took them up on the free Prime trial. The two to three days faster shipping was nice but the music and video really did not impress me so I cancelled it before the trial was up. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A.
