jezsuizPorsche DESTROYS the 'Ring lap record....
The acceleration out of corners was amazing. I think I’m a pretty good driver, no way I would be able to do that at that speed.

That thing shifts almost instantaneously. I raced a Cadillac CTS-V for a few years and that thing was a complete dog compared to the 911 in the video. The CTS-V was no slouch either at 700HP at the rear wheels.
Just an inadvertent error, no doubt, but that’s obviously not a “911.” It’s the latest evolution of their Le Mans Prototype-class race car.
No doubt, meant to type 919. Thanks for catching that.

furloughGreat googly-moogly that was crazy!
He didn’t even go down into the carousel, he just went around the top and held it. The grip/downforce on that car is amazing.
This and no other is the root from which a tyrant springs; when he first appears above ground he is a protector.

FishOnI always liked this video of the famous "Yellowbird" Ruf 911 on the Ring.

StramboYeah, touching 228-229 MPH on the final straight is insane and that acceleration out of the corners! Hope he had a G suit...

I watched a second time and payed attention to the cockpit shot of the driver and I can see why they need to be in top physical condition. He took a beating on that run. I can't imagine what it would be like to it in a long endurance race. Just that one lap would put me in the hospital.

We had a '61 Bug. The 0-60 time was "one afternoon".
My 78 Volarie station wagon went 0-60 "sometimes”

Sweet Jeezus, what a tail happy 911 driven by driver with balls and reactions that won't quit! Thanks for posting this video - amazing what drivers did before electronic stability control.

Holy cow! The ass end of that 911 is crazy with all that power. I would have been off the course in less than a minute.
Thanks for posting. I hadn't seen that before. I remember reading about the 'Yellow Bird' in Road&Track back in the day.

I had a '62 Corvair two speed automatic that would give you guys a run for your money... when we were in a hurry we would open the doors and put a foot out and push to get going quicker at red lights.
Endeavor to persevere. July 02, 2018, 12:19 PM

You guys are killing me. Makes my '69 Beetle seem like a monster. I remember when my older brother taught me how to do a slow-motion double-clutch to downshift into 2nd from 4th at about 60 mph. Listen to me roar! No, we didn't leave the transmission behind, and we didn't do it often...

sjtillThe Porsche needed a new set of Michelin tires for each lap.

LOL, yep. I've owned 3 but never had the balls to get that crazy! That driver is good. I love it when the motorcycle gets the hell out of his way. Top of my bucket list is to drive 2-3 laps on that track with a well-sorted air-cooled 911. Stick shift--no paddle shifters! I will do that before I die.

You are lucky you did not blow up that engine!
