When the city redeveloped that area it pushed that gang hpw and there has been extensive gang on gang violence ever since in battles over turf.

Same thing happened in St. Louis when they tore the projects down, and used Section 8 Housing to move them all over the place. We went from six gangs to sixty almost over night.

This article in "The Atlantic" was published 9 years ago and addresses this metastasizing of crime from the inner city to the suburbs. I posted it here a couple times.

When we tore down the Projects, we moved a lot of gang members OUT OF CHICAGO to the suburbs. Now with less gang members, we have more shootings.

AZ Engineer, yes, for a little while (a year +/-) there was some, but not much war over "turf" when the Projects were torn down, but that's not solely the problem. Then, problems were in one area. It's multi-faceted on why we have this many shootings.
Revolving door on our criminal justice system is a HUGE factor. There is NO punishment for crime. The "Ferguson Effect" or "De-Policing" is taking hold on the force, and has been slowly for a few years now. The utter lack of addressing the real issues in the inner-city for fear of loosing votes, money.... ZERO family values, ZERO values, idolizing the "Thug-Life" culture, race, politics, education, mentality...... and on, and on, and on...

But in the end, it all boils down to one thing: No one gives a fuck. Oh, sure a lot of people PRETEND to care, but something is in it for them. Sure, there's that (maybe) 5% of the victims that are truly innocent, like the teacher we had shot and killed about 2 weeks ago, but the rest... Pretty much like Africa.

As far as the how, when the guns get to Chicago? Thefts, burglaries, straw purchases and illegal purchases.
The why? Kinda no shitter moment here - it makes $$$$$.

Really? Federal law only allows one to buy a handgun in the state in which one resides. Does Illinois law allow its residents to buy any firearms outside of Illinois?

Emanuel might be deluded enough to believe his own words, but I doubt it. What he really wants is power on the national level. As CPD SIG notes, he really doesn't care about the gang bangers killing each other. It's all more of the same political posturing so characteristic of the GDCs.

I'm a bit skeptical about this. So if you buy a gun on Gunbroker, you can only purchase from a seller in your state? I live in IL. I was recently in a Bass Pro Shops in Indiana. I asked to see a gun in the case. The clerk asked for my FOID before showing it to me. He didn't say anything about me not being able to make a purchase.

I'd be interested in comparing this study to the ATF's gun trace data.

No problem with you buying from anywhere.

It gets shipped to your FFL in your home state.

ETA: As far as the Fed is concerned - your state however has it's own rules
