That was the prevailing view back in 1971... We had an active draft then. How many 18 year-olds are fighting in a war today? I think if the age has to be the same I'd rather raise the military age to 21 than allow 18 year olds to decide important national issues. Besides, they raised the drinking age to 21 almost everywhere. "Some things are apparent. I don't know what y'all are suggesting. Beyond fantasy land. But I do agree with Para's original premise. We absolutely need more educated citizens, who understand their duties and obligations as such. Therefore, as a naturalized citizen (at age 10, it took 3 years as an adopted child), I had to take a citizen civic test. In the 80s, everyone, regardless of age had to. I believe it is the same today. Which is why the vast majorly of naturalized citizens are more conservative and truly understand what it means to have the privilege and title to be called an American, we had to earn it. Back then it was about a 12 months of classes (a process), think like night class. Maybe the solution is to make everyone take the same naturalization courses, with the final test, before getting a high school diploma or GED. Used to be, it was all taught in public schools.  I would absolutely be in favor of raising the voting age to 25. 18-24 year olds are nowhere near as mature as many of us were at that age I'd also support, as pointed out above with regard to local levies, restricting that voting to actual tax paying citizens (property owners). ________________________________________________________ It is long past time for a Convention of States. I agree, you can have both. Required voting age is 25 UNLESS you are military, emergency response job, or a Police Officer. I’m good with those exemptions. I 100% agree with you, if an 18 year old joins the military, they should be able to flip off their 18 year old friends, with that military ID and be able to buy, beer, liquor, etc. What am I doing? What the hell does military service have to do with voting? Do you think that the military is some magic school like Hogsworth? That the military only cookie cutters out conservative MAGA? Many of you are conflating what is a man with age. Our founding fathers had no such delusions. Many were in there 20's. As men, our job is to raise sons to be men. Period. The natural order of the entire universe is men build civilization for the women we love. They are the reason for beauty around us. It's why men go to war. Age does not matter. Plenty of 15-17 year old boys went to war in WW2 and other conflicts after. None of them had the right to vote. There is no "unless" in a Republic. We are citizens or we are not. Some thoughts The 26th lowered the voting age to 18. The Argument was we had kids fighting and dying in Vietnam, when they couldn’t vote. The 23rd eliminated the poll tax and literacy test. These were used to disenfranchise Blacks and others. We see the same behavior with gun laws despite rulings by SCOTUS. With the lowing of the voting age highway deaths went up. Congress tied highway funding to a 21 year old drinking age.
