lastmanstanding, Moderated Status for one day, and you're fortunate I don't give you an entire month, what with your open defiance of this long-standing policy.
You Goddamned well know better than to interject politics into an apolitical thread, and on top of that, your complete disregard for this long-standing policy of mine and posting it in the admin's thread is a slap in the face.
Don't you ever again pull this fucking shit. It's not funny, it's not original and it is not welcome. Get it through your head.

I'd think it would be enough time to realize what's going on.
You raise an interesting point here. I replayed the video several times. In less than a second of the door opening the body cam is on him. His hand is already in the slit pocket on the front of his jacket and on the gun.
Based on this I would speculate that A) He was anticipating being face to face with an angry parent, or perhaps a sting, and was ready to use deadly force to escape. B) Had an even more horrible plan for those children.
I'd further speculate that as soon as he saw someone taller than 4' he initiated the draw knowing he was in trouble.

Not sure why some aren’t happy with cops doing these operations. Not like the guy was sitting at home thinking about kids and the cops kicked his door in and gunned him down. He went to a hotel to meet kids, and maybe the gun was for an angry parent or in case of set up, doesn’t matter he went to meet kids. Even the idea of possibly being set up (bringing the gun, though could have been for the kids too) wasn’t a deterrent or too much risk to still show up and try to meet these kids. That’s a mental state you can’t fix, IMO. Well, as far as society is concerned, these cops fixed it.

I will try to speak for the other guy but I am just guessing. I doubt he has any issue with the cops removing a pedo from the world at all. Anything involving child abuse will usually get most people, myself included, edging very close to the end justifies the means. Which in most cases is dangerous ground as a lawful society.
I bet he doesn't mind this particular result but in general is not a fan of entrapment style law enforcement. Take the child abuse element out and instead think enticing people to do wrong and then nabbing them. IE, there are enough people actively planning and conducting crime that LE shouldn't need or want to conduct anything close to entrapment.
Like I said earlier for those of you reading challenged, I have no issue with this shooting. You go after kids I am ok with rooting you out by any means. It gets sketchier with other crimes to my mind though. Again though, not with pedophiles. I am AOK with that. Which is hypocritical. I have to explain that to God though not you guys.

There is very little entrapment in these cases, these predators are out there fishing all the time. Example" one of my officers went to a training class on these types of investigations, so as a Roll Call Training, he created a 14 year old girl profile and posted it on line (around 2230 hours). Within 3 minutes, an adult male responded. A couple back and forth messages, and within 10 minutes the suspect was sending time and date stamped photos of his dick.....within 10 minutes of the profile going online. A few more back and forth messages and we had a young Asian female officer call the suspect on a burner phone. All of which were recorded. She said she had another 14 year old girl spending the night with her but "they" agreed to sneak out to meet him. He told her that it should be close to her house because afterwards, she and her friend would be too sore to walk far to get home. He told us in both messages and verbally exactly what he was bringing with him (blanket, condoms, alcohol, and Ecstasy aka Molly or MDMA, and specific sex toys). He raced from Belleville IL to central west St. Louis suburb to meet the two 14 year girls in like 20 minutes (left at 0050 hours and arrived at 0110 hours). We took him down and he had every single item that he said he would. Oh, he also turned out to be a Department of Homeland Security employee and was doing all this communication on his Department of Homeland Security Computer. He pled and took 15 years in prison to avoid going to trial. At that time, it was a record sentence for Child Enticement in St. Louis County.
In another case, the suspect said he was going to show up with condoms, sex toys, and drugs. He showed up in a cargo van with a pistol, rope, duct tape, zip ties, a couple blankets, and Heroin ready in a syringe........let that sink in. He got a lot of time but was never connected to any other crimes at that time.
There are specific ways to do these investigations and everything is logged as evidence, all chats, messages, phone calls, etc.

Yes, you have it. Absolutely right. It's obvious to me.
He wasn't there to meet cops and shoot them. Things just happened too quickly and he ended up being turned into a large colander.
Maybe he thought he was being robbed. Maybe he knew why he was there and knew a child sex crime was going to ruin his life. These assholes and child porn guys are scary from a police perspective because of how they might react.

That's my only issue with it, unless the police had the hotel all to themselves. Why invite a potentially dangerous situation into an area occupied by innocent people.

That is doing the Lord's work. While I couldn't bring myself to be in the same room with such scum (without beating them to death with a lead pipe), taking that kind of garbage out of society has to be extremely satisfying.

PLEASE stop speculating on assholes perception. Why are you justifying or attempting to justify his actions? "Maybe he thought he was being robbed?" Fuck that noise!
Asshole knew exactly what he was there for. EXACTLY. To commit a very evil, vile and disgusting act against a person unable to protect themself, and unable to consent to sexual acts. AND asshole brought a gun. I think this is pretty much the definition of "Mallm in se"
I've unfortunately in my career had to deal with more of these things than I ever want to in my life. I couldn't shower enough when I was done with work those days.
One of the BEST bosses I ever worked for in my life was a former Detective assigned to the CPD's "Special Investigation Unit" all they did was the Child Sex cases. Boy-o-boy, do you want to hear some stomach turning, truly evil shit? Talk to a Detective that handles that stuff.
The only bad thing is, asshole is dead. A few years in General Population in any State Prison would be hell on earth for them. Let asshole suffer for a few years before he gets killed.
Here's something to think about- Do you think this was his first time, or just the first time he got caught?
One thing is for sure- It damn sure WAS HIS LAST.

It doesn't particularly surprise me. The military is a small sample of the general human population. No longer can we look at military personnel as people who take the high ground. Plenty of grifters, con artists and criminals in the military.

I am certainly no expert, but the guy seems to be drawing the gun at a weird angle. To me it seems like either he was going to hand it over(unlikely) or he was going to shoot himself. I think he was going to shoot himself once he saw there were cops waiting for him. I cant tell but I wonder if he pulled the trigger first. Almost looks like his thumb. The cops did the right thing no doubt.
That's a pretty nice hotel to meet some 7 and 11 year old's. He must have felt very comfortable and has done this before. The only bad thing about his death is his silence now.
