Because rhabdo is unlikely, unless a piece of gym equipment falls on me, but colds, flu and diseases of the skin most definitely are not.

I'm not sure what you mean. Rhabdo isn't from an injury; it's from overworking your muscles to the point of cells breaking down and causing a protein dump into your system. I know of people who have had it from overdoing things like push-ups, negative pull-ups, and spin class.

I agree with you though, I'm more concerned about other peoples' germs than rhabdo, but that's not gym-exclusive. Things like shopping cart handles are just gross.

it's me.

Btw, I know of no one actually ever getting da rhabdo.

All my time as a personal trainer, bodybuilder, triathlete, crossfitter, and jiu jitsu dude....never seen or even heard of someone getting da rhabdo.

I think someone got it once years back and the Today show did a story on it to highlight the dangers of crossfit for beginners.

You're right though, he shouldn't worry about rhabdo. He should worry about ring worm, skin herpes and developing bigorexia.

LOL, I hope none of the gym-goers here are hypochondriacs.

My son-in-law got ringworm from the gym, which is a far more gym-specific concern than cellulitis.

That does it! I'm switchin' to doing only 12 oz. curls and fork lifts... at home!

I was going to mention this earlier in the thread. I know of no one who has ever gotten cellulitus in the gym, but I know a few who have gotten ringworm from gym equipment. Thankfully I never have.

I thought it only happened on Parris Island. I never heard of it before boot camp and never saw it again after.

That wouldn't make my list of top 1,000 things to be concerned about. I've been in the gym my whole life, and never heard of it. Marine recruits are pushed to muscle failure every single day, and I never saw or heard of rhabdo.
