This has been heppening a lot recently. Someone leaves a note on your windshield saying they are interested in buying your car. There's a phone number to call. You look around and see the same note on all the cars parked nearby. I've heard these notes are being left all over the Peninsula and The City (San Francisco). Pretty sure it's a scam, but how does it work? Anyone else running into this?

It will hit here in a few years. Someone trying to get information on you, a phone number or record your voice. Here it is limited to letters from Nigeria. You could call the local Bunco division and see if Detective Joe Friday can help.

Sounds like the same idea as sending "Cash offers for your house" junk mail. Calling them will likely get you a lowball offer for your car, which then they'll flip.

Was the note on a yellow strip of paper folded up and taped on the windshield? I've seen some on cars, but didn't read them as they weren't on my car. I guess my hooptie isn't good enough for them.

As I reccall it was just a scrap of note-paper left under the windshield wiper.

Probably the one where they offer to buy your car with a bank check for more than the agreed price and want you to send them the difference before they have someone come get the car. If you deposit check it bounces a few days later and they’re nowhere to be found with your money.

I got one of these, barely legible, about 5 years ago except it was on the front door of my apt.
