Thank you for sharing this. I think it was a good choice for you to have your boys share the experience with you. I am sure it is something they will never forget.

God bless that young marine, and the others who died with him, all of them needlessly. May their families find peace. They will be in my prayers.

Rest in peace young Marine, a grateful nation greaves for you, and is indebted to your memory in solemn thankfulness.

Cheers to all, but especially Corporal Schmitz.

Yesterday afternoon the funeral procession left Baue Funeral home to lay the Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

While home at lunch, my wife said we should go so I quit working early, grabbed our flag, and we went to the Clayton Rd & 270 overpass.

Like a a1abdj posted, we were astounded at the outpouring of support. The procession when when we could first see it, took 25 minutes.

The people who showed up were all extremely friendly. We were also surprised to see young children. Every overpass we could see had firetrucks, police, and others crowded on top. Inspiring!

Here are our pics:

I was in south county yesterday which is a long ways from the airport but close to Jefferson Barracks where he was probably put to rest. I’ve never seen anything like it. The outer roads that run along the sides of the highways were completely packed. All the overpasses had huge cranes holding the flag up high and people just kinda stopped where they were at. It was quite a sight that’s for sure.

I sent a couple of my officers, both recovering Marines. The funeral was delayed by one day so Marines from his unit could attend. They said the procession was so long that the front of the procession arrived at Jefferson Barracks while the rear was just passing the Blanchette Bridge on I70. Here is video from the Funeral Procession from St. Charles to Jefferson Barracks:
