I made it so far, now I'll go for more |
I am getting some pop ups lately saying something about a security suite, browser extension, and something else that I can't remember at the moment. Is this stuff legit, and how do I get rid of it if not? Thanks, Bob I am no expert, but think I am sometimes.

You might want to pay attention to it, it may be telling you you're stepping into areas that have viruses or other types of malware. If you want to get rid of it, System Preferences, Security, Privacy, Firewall Off should do it. Use caution. I would also download and install a copy of Avast.

I am starting to get pop-ups that tell me to use X software to clean my mac that it will probably speed me up. I learned a long time ago while still using a Windows based machine to pay them no attention and, to NEVER download what they were asking you to. Also when you do D/L any software pay close attention to what they are telling you on the install procedure since a lot of software has add ons that you really do NOT want on your machine and unless de-slected they will auto install with the new software. A good example of this are things like Yahoo or google search etc. SigP229R Harry Callahan "A man has got to know his limitations". if you are using Chromium or Firefox , download Adblock Plus and it will stop the popups . Also I would recommend " Avast Free "for Mac . best .

+ All of the above. I suspect the popups are coming through your browser, correct? If they are coming from somewhere else, you've got a problem... I've been using Sophos Antivirus for the Mac for years. It's free, and commercial grade. https://home.sophos.com/download-mac-anti-virus The only viruses I've seen on my Mac come through my Windows virtual machine when I'm running my corporate email, where many of the attacks are vectored. Sophos has caught them all (but they're Windows viruses, so the overall affect is negligible). You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless. NRA Benefactor/Patriot Member
