We didn't even plan for it to be erupting like that when we planned that trip. Kilauea68 - 2a by kpkina, on Flickr

Random thought - Wonder what it would look like if a big hurricane blew in the direction of the lava flows.

From the sound of the video, the feral hippies were home owners too (well at least owners of a pile of lava with what was a home underneath it). Don't know that Mr. Hubbard did anything to advance the cause of responsible gun owners...

He's not a responsible gun owner, and was known to law enforcement for previous issues.

The rural areas of Hawaii, including big swaths of the Big Island are like Alaska, have small communities of off-the-grid types, pockets of hermits and isolated alternative living areas, they all having a common issue of difficulty getting along with others and following instructions. Moving to the beat of a different drummer is an understatement. Sounds like Mr Hubbard just couldn't handle all the activity around him.

"Get off my lava!"? Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. "If dogs don't go to Heaven, I want to go where they go" Will Rogers The definition of the words we used, carry a meaning of their own...

Maybe Jallen or one of the other attorneys will know the answer to this. A person owns a home on the bay. Lava moves through, takes out the home, fills in the bay, and extends the coastline out into the ocean. I'm assuming that you still own whatever is in your original boundaries regardless of the new landscape? Who owns the new waterfront property that was just created?

It may be much like the Ellis Island dispute: "Things became more problematic for New York, however, with regard to Ellis Island when the state allowed landfill from ship ballast and NYC subway construction to increase the island's acreage. Ultimately, Ellis Island expanded from the original 3.3 acres to over 24 acres. Though the famous main building on the island lies almost entirely within the border of the original land mass, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1998 that the landfill portions of the island lie within New Jersey's jurisdiction as they impinge on that state's riparian rights. Ultimately, the two states agreed to share jurisdiction of Ellis Island (and probably almost as important as the bragging rights for the states concerned, the sales tax revenue from the sale of souvenirs and concessions on the island)." Here New Jersey owned the bottom of the harbor. When it was raised above ground by New York, it belonged to New Jersey. I suspect the state owns the bottom of the bay. Now that it's above sea level, the state owns it. https://www.quora.com/Is-the-S...w-York-or-New-Jersey “ The work of destruction is quick, easy and exhilarating; the work of creation is slow, laborious and dull.
