One of my wife's best friends lives on La Palma. Luckily, for her, opposite the direction in which the lava has been following. Nonetheless, she's getting off the island. In addition to the volcano, which keeps having new vents show up, there've been nearly constant earthquakes. Apparently there's some concern the southern part of the island may actually break up or break off?

Wow, that’s the first time I’ve paid attention to the noise associated with an eruption. Sounds like a never ending flyover of jet engines.

The sound is just like the brown noise I use when sleeping on my I phone.

I hope everyone is Ok.

That's been a worse-case scenario that plate-tectonic and disaster studies have been keeping an eye on the last 50-years. Having that much mass tumbling into the ocean would (under the right conditions) result in a tsunami across the Atlantic to the Western Hemisphere.

La Palma Volcano Flanks Collapse/Tsunami of Lava/Giant Boulders Rolling Down the Side

Gets real interesting at about 1:30

That's inconceivable!!

The voiceover on the video references a "boulder" that was as large as some stadiums. Then further on, he points out that rock continues to move... not by rolling, but by being bouyed on a wave of lava.

I've been following this since it started. The last time this volcano erupted, the larger volcanic ridge about this vent developed a significant crack. There was speculation another eruption could cause the crack to rupture and the entire west flank of the volcano could slam into the Atlantic ocean. This could cause a huge tsunami that would take out the entire east coast of North and South America. Or not. The scientists can't seem to make up their minds.

Went from a good simmer to a mid boil now. A KaBoom is not out of the question I wouldn't think as we continue forward. Not a Volcano expert but wow.

Pretty impressive stuff that Mother Nature has to offer. Bet you can buy your own island relatively inexpensively.

Well that’s a happy thought. In 2 weeks I’ll be on the east coast of the Dominican.

Wow. Amazing how fast lava flows. Good thing those people had warning to get out of way. Watching it is mesmerizing. And not in a good way.

I was surprised reading about the Canary Islands, at the population total. 2.5 million.

Also, there is an observatory on La Palma.
