A joke, and a poll; curious as to who finds it funny
My younger son told me this joke, and I thought it was funny. My older son did not. What say you?

A teenage boy was about to go on his first date, and he was very nervous, telling his dad that he didn't know what he was going to talk about. His dad told him "I always found that you could talk about food, family, or philosophy. If you get stuck, try that".

So the young man is at dinner with his date, and he's nervously eating, not knowing how to get the conversation going. He remembers his dad's suggestion, and asks the girl "Do you like potato pancakes?" She responds "no".

More time passes and the silence is awkward. He summons some courage and asks "Do you have a brother?" She replies "no".

More time passes, and the silence is deafening. He finally asks "If you did have a brother, would he like potato pancakes?"Do you find it funny, not funny, or just don't get it?I don't get it.I get it, but I don't think it's funny.I thought it was funny.

It's not that funny on the retelling, but if you were actually in the conversation it's really quite witty. (i.e. guess you had to be there)

I thought it was kind of stupid, but I chuckle at stupid jokes all the time. Think Three Stooges. Smile

More of a “cerebral pun” than a “joke”. I got it, can see a lot of folks not getting it...

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

Not funny. The concept is there, but nothing funny about potato pancakes or having a brother, and there is no funny link between the two.

I chuckled. I'd call it a little better than "mildly amusing".

I find it very funny. I find many things hilarious that others think are absolutely droll.

And I am going to send to my daughters, my brother and cousin and see what they think.

Come on. It’s funny!

You have to imagine the scene in your mind. Two young inexperienced people being awkward on a date.

The punchline is the guy following the plan and coming up with a philosophy question.

I’m still chuckling.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
