Who do you recommend for firearms insurance? My homeowners insurance doesn't offer any coverage.

I'm currently using ArmsCare Plus from the NRA but my premiums keep creeping up so I'm looking at other options.

Those that have other plans what are you paying in terms of premiums per $ of coverage? Once all fees and taxes are included I'm currently at $1.50/$100 coverage.

You might search, I know there was a fairly recent thread on this but I’m using Collectibles. I have not had a claim yet but coverage is like Lockton but much cheaper, mine were half of the NRA cost.

I use USAA for mine which offers a reasonable cost for my little collection.

My homeowners insurance won't cover it; I'm looking too.

No homeowner's insurance covers more than a token amount for firearms. No different than jewelry coverage.

My State Farm homeowners covered $5000 in loses.

They were more than happy to issue a separate rider that now covers $40,000. for firearm's coverage. the cost is $288.00 a year and they bill monthly on automatic payment. It should be noted that SF has my entire line of insurance and writes several policies. that might affect costs.

Like others have said, you have a set and limited amount for several categories like cash, firearms, collectibles, and jewelry. I chose a plan B. I chose a decent gun safe as an alternative to annual premium, and after a few years you have saved money when you "prepaid" by getting the safe (or two hehe). Now I have less worry about my firearms walking off w/ bad guy. Not foolproof but an alternative...

Not what you asked for, but this is what I did. I priced out insurance several years ago, maybe 10 years ago now. The cost for me just wasn't worth it. I live in a nice neighborhood, crime rate is pretty low, we have lots of retired neighbors and one is a former cop with 5 security cameras and one picks up the entire front of our property perfectly. I opted to get a good safe, or at least what I thought was a good safe. Hind sight being 20/20, I would have gladly doubled the cost of my safe knowing what I know now. I paid like $1700 for a Liberty Franklin 50 and mounted it on a slightly raised platform in our basement buried behind a bunch of shelving. If a crook wants to get in, I'm sure he could with 20-30 minutes, but the likelihood of it is almost zero. Personally, I would spend the money on security lights, a few cameras and a good high quality burglar/fireproof safe. Just my $0.02.

I used Collectables Insurance for years, but switched to Eastern Insurance last year. Eastern has a solid reputation and their rates were much better.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will check out Collectors and Eastern.

I have a separate rider for jewelry on my Allstate homeowners insurance, but they did not want to issue a rider that covers firearms. At first I was told they had no options. Then I got a quote that was so ridiculously priced it was clear they just didn't want to do it. Maybe I should try again as it looks like the homeowners option is understandably the least expensive.

I have done my best to address all of the other risk factors as well. I moved out of the city several years ago and now live in a nicer and safer neighborhood. Have security cameras, lights, an alarm system, and a safe. Losses due to fire are also a concern as they wouldn't be covered by my homeowners. At $1 (or less) per $100 it seems like a no brainer to me if I can find a good option in that price range.

Another vote for the buying a safe approach and be sure it's a fire rated safe.
Taking the usual precautions, alarm, good properly installed locks, not living in the hood, not advertising you have guns, etc. (and a dog or two) will prevent 95%+ of the problems.
Remember, you aren't trying to keep James Bond out, just Bubba and his cousin. Enough effort and nothing will work.

I'm sure most of you know but the NRA offers $2500 replacement value of fire arms as long as you belong to them. Cheap insurance a year for that amount and no questions asked if something happens and you file a claim, unless that's changed.

$2500 per gun for the NRA ? Or total. I just updated my excel spreadsheet of my firearms collection including make, model, serial, price paid and FFL used among other data points It’s pretty insane my cash paid column. The current estimated value column really scares me

It is, it's also impossible to tip over. It barely cleared when we put it on the elevated platform, but after I adjusted the elevation bolts, no way is it going anywhere. There also isn't that kind of room around it to get a lot of leverage on the door. However, if were to break in it, I'd just cut the side open. Why anyone would bother with the door is beyond me. However, that's also why if I did it over, I would buy a Burglary rated safe.
