Put one on about a year ago and has been great. Was down by the furnace yesterday and saw water on the floor. So heres what I did. I changed the water panel. Checked that the supply tube was properly connected. Drain is clear. Turned it back on and no change. I pulled the filter out and looked inside while the furnace was running. It's literally raining down water inside the plenum. Any one having any ideas?

Check your drain tube for blockage. If your water is hard, or lots of dust is getting through it is likely plugged. ________________________________________________________ You never know...

Also check if you have any dampers or other issues causing changes in the air or water flow, too much of either could cause water droplets to be pulled off the panel into the plenum. Pretty simple units if it's like the two Ive had. Maybe a cracked housing water tray from time or vibration? Curious what you find. ________________________________________________________ You never know...

Ours had a solenoid that kept going bad. After replacing it twice already, we are looking at doing something else. Ours seemed like water was always running.

Mine did the same thing. I ran water through the filter thingy outside of furnace, put it back in, no problems since. My HVAC buddy said sometimes a brand new panel will do that, not to worry but check it for the next couple days. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Have you changed the water panel recently? If installed improperly (turned 180 degrees), they will leak. Dots go up.

Appreciate everones help but I did what you suggest if you reread my post. I'm wondering about the solenoid. Is it supposed to restrict flow some how based on what setting you set the control panel at? And I did put the paint dot at the top of the new water panel.

Check the plastic thing at the top. I think there’s one up there that distributes that water across the wick. Maybe the holes are clogged? Solenoid is off-on. If humidity is below the set point it turns on at least when the heat runs. There’s no in between. Off or on.

hard water can make for problems....ours had to have a new line installed due to constrictions caused by calcium blockage.

My Aprilaire leaks through the valve. I've changed the filters but it doesn't help. I'll have to replace the solenoid. Living the Dream

Another problem, slightly different with mine. No matter how much I adjust the humidifier settings, the air is still dry in my house and I am getting shocked when touching things. You can't go home again |
I just installed an Aprilaire 400. So far so good. Humidity was a bit high at first (condensation on the windows) but it's settled to around 30%. The solenoid will noticeably click on and off and my unit has no drain, just a 1/2" overflow tube which after 3 days running is dry as a bone. From what I've read, by design the units with drain lines waste about 2.3 gallons of water for every 3 gallons they use and can use up to 17 gallons of water a day. --------------------------------------- Life Member NRA “If you realize that all things change, there is nothing you will try to hold on to. Are you reusing a panel? Mine makes huge difference in shocks and perceived humidity (no humidistat). Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

No, the solenoid is a powered on/off valve. Its either open or closed. There is an orifice in the line, but that's either open or blocked with calcium. Not the problem. Here's your check list. Will have some repeats from your original post, but I'm starting from the beginning and listing everything. Cracked inlet tubing. Cracked top tubing connector. Cracked top trough. Plugged holes in trough. Filter installed wrong. Scum sitting on top of filter, below the top trough blocking water flow. Dirty corroded filter. Filter housing cracked. Filter housing drain hole plugged. Broken/plugged bottom drain spud. Blocked drain line. Air velocity too high, blowing/sucking water off media. Pretty much covers it. Need to locate where it's coming from... top/bottom, run it with the cover off and check the water flow path.

As you can tell, they require a bit of maintenance, more so than virtually any other appliance in the house.

Like BigCity I have low humidity with a 710. It reads 36% on the interior thermostat. I would like more to protect violin. I can turn the humidistat to test mode and it runs water and turns on the fan. But it never changes humidity no matter what the settings. Nine months old. ------- Trying to simplify my life...
