gpbst3Thoughts on Recteq smokers?
How long does the Recteq take to get up to max temps 450+?

I've tried the RecTec pellets, Lumberjack and Bear Mountain and don't get the same amount of smoke as the egg.
With that being said I love the Rec Tec and I would buy one again.
Not a Rectec, I went lower end with a Pit Boss to make sure I was going to like it but the extra cooking space is also why I bought a pellet grill.
Try using B&B Championship Blend pellets. That's about all I use any more and I add them in with an Amazen Smoke Tube as well. Those pellets have put some of the best flavor I've had in everything I've cooked up to this point and if there's an Academy Sports close to you they should sell 40 lb bags for $14.99.

PerceptionI can't comment on the brands you are looking at, but my Camp Chef has never left me wanting for smoke flavor, bark, or a smoke ring. My only complaint is that it really struggles over 350 degrees. I understand the Recteqs and most newer pellet grills don't have that issue.
"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in." October 26, 2020, 04:20 PM
daveaI have multiple weber's and a treager. If I were looking at pellet smokers again I would be looking hard at the relatively new weber's. The treager I bought is the portable one. Bought it for camping. However I bought another 22" kettle grill nothing like making a charcoal snake and wood chips. You might want to look into thermoworks products. They have controllers to help control temp in your weber. Just my 2 cents.

benny6Here are two dinners we made this week on the RT-700. I use pizza stones. These are two large Papa Murphy's thin-crust pizzas. I pre-cut the crust so they don't shatter when I run the pizza cutter across the edge.
Burgers, herb chicken breasts and sweet corn wrapped with a slice of butter inside.
You can cook a LOT of meat with the 700. I may consider getting the expansion rack for block parties.

mark_aInteresting, I go straight to the grate with our pizzas. I like a crispy crust.
I'm not as happy with the add on shelf as I wish I was. I built a second shelf for my traeger and I think I'm going to do the same for the 700. If I'm going to give up height I'm going to give it up all the way across for more capacity.
Other than that, I offered them a couple hundred bucks for some alternative handles. They just laughed...

SigEdI'm a ceramic guy. I have two Primo Ovals at home and love them. That said, I got tasked with buying a grill for a company owned property out of the country. After a lot of research I went with a Rectec. I could not be more impressed. Smokes wonderfully, sears really well with the searing plates. Does an excellent job with a reverse sear on steaks. Also they have excellent customer service. I think you'll be really happy.
