Mother was just had one prescribed. Helping her Get started.
As I unscrew the applicator cap the needle looks like 1\4 inch long and there is stuff left in the cap. Does the needle withdraw into the unit upon application or something?
I'm assuming it's normal as the second one is the same. I just hesitate to jam that into her arm the way it looks.
The directions and YouTube are not addressing this at all.

A metal needle penetrates quickly into her arm then withdraws back into the unit leaving a very small plastic catheter.

You can call Abbott Tech Support for more information (855-632-8658).

Success. That needle is just longer than I expected.
Thanks again Jim.

Yeah, it scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it, too. I have skinny arms, and I figured it would hit bone. It did not. Shugart described the system well.

I'll be interested to hear how you like the 3. I Have the Libre 2 and am about 85% happy with it.

Imagine doing this to an 8 year old who is terrified of needles.
He is cool with it now. Took about 3 months for it to become nothing to him. He is now 10 and the damn things are constantly coming off.

We just got the prescription switched to the 3 from 2. But you can only get the readers from certain medical equipment supply places and not any old pharmacy like the reader for the 2.
Which is a bit of a pain.

That's good to know...maybe enough of a pain to stick with the 2 until they come up with an easier solution.

As to falling off...I think it was Chowser who recommended these. I've been using them for the past couple of months and haven't had one fall off since. I used to lose about a third of them before the two weeks was up.

If you use your phone as the device it’s not a big deal.
We have to have a reader because goes to school, he may be with me, my wife, or the grandparents, or friends parents.
Also If you could connect them multiple devices it would not be an issue.
He’s 10 so no phone for him. The reader just gets passed to whichever adult he is with.

As for the sticky things we’ve tried them all.

My phone apparently lacks the proper technology to communicate with the sensor, so it's the standalone reader for me. I agree, it's dumb that you can't connect a sensor to multiple devices.

Honestly, I wish they would develop some sort of implant that could just get surgically inserted under the skin one time and then last for years, kind of like a pacemaker. It would be kind of a pain to have installed, but way less annoying than the external arm patch. We've got DTs training coming up this week at work, and mine is probably going to get ripped off again.

Interesting. Always thought it was just Bluetooth through the app.
What phone do you have?

Motorolla Moto G Stylus 5g. I don't believe it uses Bluetooth, but rather Near Field Communication. My phone isn't on the list of compatible devices, and the app isn't available for it through the app store. Not a huge deal...I don't mind the standalone reader. Would be nice to have the phone as a secondary option though for days that I forget it at home or something like that....but the sensors don't support multiple-device connectivity anyway.

I think the 3 requires the equivalent of an IPhone 7 or later to work.

I've been using the FreeStyle system for a couple months now. I LOVE it compared to stabbing my fingers.
