Yes, you will have to find a way to get through the super-PITA period. But imo it’s worth it to see how you’ll like it.

My hair right now is probably the longest it’s ever been, similar to Mike’s up there. You learn new methods of managing it as you go.

Somebody told me I have to use the side door. Big Grin

The worst is when the sides are long enough to get in your face but not catch in a ponytail holder. Mines tied up 99% of the time but I wear it down sometimes when out on a date with my wife.

I tell you, I'm tempted. But it's currently 1/4 of an inch long, and has been since the Army, so getting to long hair would be an ugly process.

I never bothered to get a hair cut for the 18 months our office was in a work from home mode. It almost reached my shoulders. I found it to be a major pain in the ass because it took so long to dry vs my normal 2"-3" length. I was very happy when I got it cut. I was a hippie type in my younger days and long hair didn't strike me as a problem then.

If you aren't doing work where it would be a safety hazard (it is in my business, so touching a shirt collar is my absolute limit), why not? You'll want to part it in the middle. If you have been parting on one side or the other, one side will be longer, so you'll need to keep this in mind. Keep it washed and combed. And for Christ's sake, don't tie it in a bun. You'll look like a douche. Razz A ponytail is acceptable temporarily when you really need to keep the hair out of objects.

Being soon to retire myself, your post briefly intrigued me, but I think I'll stick with short.

I had long hair in college and cut it before I graduated. I used Covid as an excuse to grow it back out (even though my wife has cut my hair for the past 25 years). Growing it out sucks until you can get it in a ponytail. I wore hats a lot. It now stays in a ponytail most of the time. I do like that it takes me about 10 seconds to do my hair now. I also don’t have to wash it as often. When it was short it would be greasy at the end of the day. Now I go about 3-4 days between washing it.

Downsides are the hair that’s always all over the place and I’m constantly getting it caught in my armpit or on the shoulder strap of my backpack. Pros: I like the way it feels and not messing with it hardly at all. Trimming it takes my wife about 2 minutes and maybe once every couple of months vs 20-30 minutes every other week when it was short.

No help from me, I've had the same haircut since 1966.

I tried to grow my hair long(er-ish) once in my early 20's, because I knew it would soon start making a retreat and it was now or never. lol The back got a head start from me basically having a Mohawk for a long time (though I almost always wore a hat anyway), so it went from mohawk to mullet. Big Grin Anyway, it got long enough that I could make a little pony tail if I'd wanted, and it start curl like crazy! It didn't get any "longer", it just got more and more curly, bushy, so I gave up on it.

Originally the rationale was "I'm out, I can do this!" But now I suspect it's curiosity more than anything.

As I have no past history with my own hair long, I'm hoping to just be able to do an Appliance Brad and either just let my hair loose or a simple pony tail....but I have no idea what it's gonna do.

I guess I'll let it go til the wife complains, then hit the salon (so cheesy....place is called "Trendz" with the male part called "Menz") to see what they say about my plan.

I grew mine out during Covid. Got it down past my shoulders. I definitely looked domiciled challenged for a while, especially since I was growing my beard out for the first time as well. My friends said I looked like I should be living in a mountain shed writing a manifesto. I did the pony or tucked it under a baseball when it got long enough to bother my eyes. It was definitely a hit with the ladies. Mrs Highlander was fan.

Got it cut short again after lockdown and haven’t thought about growing it out again.

V-Tail and Artie might not believe this but I used to have long hair. Think John Lennon circa The White Album long.
