A week after Ryan got his Driver's licence his dad purchased a new car to drive,
His primary intent was to allow Ryan to drive the family Impala too school and also his part time job.

The Impala was 12:years old with 100,00 miles on it.but Ryan was grateful and appreciative .

The first nine days were fine, just fine.
The routine was getting cemented in.

Open the garage door, fasten the seat belt check the mirrors, start the car , arm over the seat back eyes over the shoulder ,
Shift to Reverse and foot off the brake over to the gas pedal.

Life was great ,nine days in.

On day ten there was a note in the window
"Check the oil"

Dad hadparked the car in backwards so Ryan would have room to open the hood.

The 11 year old refrigerator was a tight fit in front of the Impala.

Well the oil was fine.
Down came the hood and Ryan climbed in ,followed the now embedded series of steps.

Until. . . the shift lever came down one notch instead of the required three.

Before he could stop his toe, it very lightly touched the accelerator pedal and folded the refrigerator in half with the rear bumper.

No damage to the car or wall.

Moral: The chains of habit are light until they get so strong that they can not be broken.

Bendable, I enjoy how you make us think about things that wouldn’t occur to us often. It’s a fun twist! Glad you’re here, amigo

Had a few people say the wife didn't wait for the door to clear the top of the new suv.
They backed into the door when it cleared the mirror.

That happens all the time - especially with trucks/laden forklifts going through roll up doors.

The one steadfast rule my kids driving instructor told us - for each of my 3 girls, and every other kid and parent in class, DO NOT let them park or leave from the garage.

Cute metaphorical story, and a lot of people go through life like that for real.
Too many actually.

Ha! Default level of training.

At least it wasn’t enough that the airbags went off. Glad he’s ok!

Then how do they learn?

This was prior to the cars having air bags

I was selling/delivering appliances in Phoenix

I just happened to have a very good used fridge on hand so I suggested a $239.00 garage frige option instead of the new $700.00 top freezer. They were pleased.

It was a hoot to see that thing folded up
