Cookster and apprentice,

Congrats to you both. My email is in my profile. I believe I will need your email addresses and first/last names. Please put sigforum in the subject line of your email

Dan

A list of superpowers will circle the web periodically and people are encouraged to pick only 2 or 3 of the several listed. As far back as I can remember flying was on my list. Like a hummingbird; backwards, hover, side to side. I'm sure I fancied others but flying was always there.

I had an epiphany last year while Pop was in the hospital. He'd had a trach tube for several years and while he wasn't intubated, it was being used for oxygen instead of a nose tube so he couldn't speak. For several weeks communication was gestures, simple yes or no questions, or pointing at various images on laminated pieces of paper.

My sisters and mom were far better at figuring out what he wanted. It was very frustrating for everyone and there were times he would give up trying to make his wants known. It grew more difficult as the edema increased making it difficult for him to move his arms and unable to point. I remember feeling so inadequate after it took several minutes for me to figure out that he wanted monday night football on the TV.

While sitting in the chair next to his bed it came to mind that telepathy was more important to me than flying. To be able to read his mind but only what he wished to share. To give him that comfort and help would have been priceless. I remember also feeling selfish about wanting to fly. What kindness could I have done for a loved one, or anyone, by floating in midair? That has been on my mind for the past 6 months.

Marvel and DC comics have probably created every superpower possible so pick one and reply. It can be anything. Mine is a rather somber experience but feel free to post about something wonderful.

Comic book reference was just as an example. It can be ANYTHING beyond the normal capacities of human beings.

RULES:

1. You MUST explain WHY you chose a particular ability but need not share extremely personal details. What would you do with your choice?

2. You must have been registered on the forum on or before October 12th, 2022.

I'll use the karmanator to pick a winner and also choose one personally. At a minimum 2 $25 amazon gift certificates will be given away. I've no idea if this thread will fade quickly or remain on the first page for a few days but I'll let it run at least through the weekend.

Dan

X-ray vision.

I could be hero or villain.

Hero, see through walls to rescue disaster victims.

Villain, well you know, smoke idjits with high energy radiation.

I'm gonna go with levitation. Handy and can easily re-purposed to flight.

The superpower I've always wanted is to find any object and know how it got there. This stems initially from frustrations such as not being able to find my keys or something. It's not enough to know that my keys are under the couch. I also need to see that they fell out of my pocket when I was lying on the couch and then my shoe kicked the fob under there when I was getting up.

Sometimes I tell people my superpower wish, and they give me a shrug, like, "That's it?" I tell them I'd be able to find other objects too. "My child is missing!" I know where he is and how he got there. "I need money!" I can tell you where there's lost money or where buried pirate treasure is, and I know how they got there. "Malaysia Airlines 370?" Yup. "The Ark of the Covenant?" Yup. "The Loch Ness Monster?" Sure. "The Lost City of Atlantis?" Oh yeah.

Strength, speed, agility, thunder/lightning ... the hammer. Thor ! Read Thor comics growing up and enjoyed the movies as an adult. Guess realize now because of my Viking heritage, but did not know this as a kid.

I saw Thor fighting evil. taking care of people especially those at sea, but was still a little bit of a troublemaker. Maybe this is why I joined the Coast Guard and later became a 38 year big city LEO. I too ended up helping people both on land and sea ... as well as having a little bit of a wild hair up my arse.

Wished I could of been big and strong like Thor ... with his hammer.

Fluency in any language at will. This would include music, math, code, the whole enchilada.
Had a couple years of French in high school, tried German for a while a couple years back, never got far in either case.
Thanks for the chance to win

I know that the karma is for a comic-book superpower, but I would have liked to have the super-power to heal and cure medical conditions, diseases and ailments, to have been able to provide relief and hope to family, loved one’s and friends who were suffering.

Super strength and invulnerability. I’d be a handy fellow to have around. Need a cat out of a tree? A tree out of another bigger tree? Pop the top on jars of pickles? The works.

Same. Invulnerability, impervious to pain and to tissue or skeletal damage. Along with super muscle and nerve strength, exponentially more than normal. No need to fly.

*edit* Please do not include me in the karma.

My answer is always the same: shapeshifting

I can be anything and have any power I wanted.

If I could only have one it would either be able to stop time or move at superspeed fast enough that it would appear time was stopped. I would always win at blackjack then.

I first thought of having this power after watching "The Girl, the Gold Watch and Everything" on TV in 1980.

I would chose the ability to compel people to tell the truth. This would make me the most dangerous man in the world but I probably wouldn't live long.

Teleportation. I could travel wherever and whenever I want without having to wait in lines, go through security, sit on a plane for hours, etc.
