The Florida senate will vote today on Israel's attempt to get his job back.

A day or so ago, Florida's Senate Rules Committee voted to uphold the Ron DeSantis suspension of Israel.

The vote was 9-7. All REPs voted to uphold the suspension, and all DEMs voted to overturn the suspension.

Full Florida senate vote today.

https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/...eriff-563688731.html

four state senators from Broward County.

State Sens. Lauren Book, Oscar Braynon II, Gary Farmer and Perry Thurston all voted to reinstate Israel as sheriff.

The four senators, all Democrats, voted with the rest of their party to return him to office. The Republican majority on the Rules Committee voted to make Israel’s suspension permanent, foreshadowing the likely outcome Wednesday when the full Senate votes.

Book’s was one of the most closely watched votes. Her district includes Coral Springs, home to many people directly affected by the 2018 massacre at the Parkland school, and she is a member of the state commission that has been studying what went wrong and how to fix it.

Before casting her pro-Israel vote, Book said it was a difficult decision. “It’s not lost on me that these families want accountability and consequences,” she said, as family members who had just called for Israel’s removal watched.

If the Senate votes party lines, Israel should stay gone, GOP controls right now.

The Dems wish this would just go away. Especially since DeSantis appointed a black democrat to take Israel's place, and he is doing a good job so far.

Book is interesting, daddy is a HUGE Dem lobbyist.

Then these Dem's voting to reinstate Israel are far more stupid then even I think they are (which is likely impossible). Vote with Repubs to keep him out and make him go away, and maybe they eventually escape this nightmare. Ah, but partisanship trumps everything in today's retarded liberal politicians. I hope South Florida voters burn each of them at the stake for their vote to re-instate.

It used to be that people who made grievous errors had humility, admitted to their mistakes and accepted their punishment. No, I'm not looking at the past through rose-colored glasses. I know that the world has always had shameless self-deceivers and charlatans, but these days, it seems that no one acknowledges their poor behavior. No one accepts responsibility for their failings and their actions. It's all about using the system to escape punishment.
Yet another indication that the world is getting worse, not better. Because of this, we, as a society, deserve what's coming.

That behavior was ingrained from an early age when parents and other supervising adults taught children to own their childish mistakes. Kids also got to bear witness to adults taking responsibility for their own actions as well.

Now it seems as though all we see people doing is looking for a way to be the exception, to find the loophole, and to weasel out of any responsibility or obligation.

I wish they'd just get rid of him outright, fire him. Why should we pay him to sit around suspended

at least one DEM senator will vote to keep suspension

Edited: This answers my question regarding suspensions in Fl

Under the Florida Constitution, the governor has the power to suspend any Florida official not subject to impeachment. Once suspended, the state Senate may permanently remove an official from office — or reinstate him or her.

The governor can suspend officials for "malfeasance, misfeasance, neglect of duty, drunkenness, incompetence, permanent inability to perform official duties, or commission of a felony." In his two terms, Scott has suspended officials from nearly every level of local government. (The governor has also suspended dozens of notaries public.) In the vast majority of cases, suspended officials have been accused of crimes.

Broward County Sheriff is an elected position.

The Sheriff of Broward County administers the largest fully accredited sheriff's office in the United States with 5,800 employees and an annual operating budget of $730 million .

Under suspension, Israel is not paid.

.@FLSenate Dems Leader @SenAudrey2eet offers an interesting theory about why Broward sheriff's deputies stayed out & Coral Springs police went to Parkland high school.

"I interpret it as those deputies had secured the perimeter, therefore Coral Springs officers could run in."

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

can you believe she would say that ?

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Bradley is REP

.@Rob_Bradley: "Taken in total this is not an individual failure. This is an institutional failure."
What happened at Stoneman Douglas was "a complete institutional failure from the sheriff’s office and the leader of that sheriff’s office."

.@Rob_Bradley says response of Broward Sheriff's Office "is a stark contrast to the response of the Coral Springs Police Department.... When they arrived they immediately rushed into Building 12."

.@Rob_Bradley: "Mr. Israel's stunning callousness in some of his statements" in the days after Parkland shooting. Israel's refusal to accept accountability "only made a horrible and tragic situation worse and that's part of leadership too."

"Today is the day for accountability."

DEM Kevin Rader: "After much thought and soul searching," he's voting against permanent removal of Scott Israel as Broward sheriff

DEM Farmer: "He soiled his own performance. I am not going to defend his performance... but again, that is not a sufficient reason to ignore the will of Broward County voters and to remove him from office."

.@FLSenate votes 25 to 15 to permanently remove Scott Israel as Broward sheriff.

Most Republicans supported Republican @GovRonDeSantis suspension.

Most Democrats side with Democrat Israel.

All 5 Broward senators vote for Israel, despite #Parkland parents’ wishes.

Israel said he plans to seek reelection as the county’s sheriff in 2020

If anyone is interested in seeing what a complete moron Israel is, pick up a copy of a book by Andrew Pollack called Why Meadow Died. Meadow was his daughter and she was murdered at MSD because of the incompetence of Israel as well as others.

Wow, can you say tone deaf and totally irresponsible. The man should be drawn and quartered with his head placed on a pike for he and his department did. Every Dem that voted to keep him should be run out of office on a rail.
