Sometimes I question that. Big Grin

Got a cold on Wednesday so I've been laying low. Took the rear seat off today and checked. Yep, that assembly is cracked. Ordered a new one which will be here on Saturday. Shouldn't take but a couple of hours to replace it.

I wish more car makers (mainly domestic) would do that. Having to remove the tank is a royal pain, especially when everything is rusted up.

I don't like the idea at all of having a gas line running inside the cab of a vehicle. I once owned a Ford F series IIRC 1965 where the gas tank was behind the seat inside the cab.

Confused It doesn't. It is still under the car. And the gas tank is in the same place, under the floor, just with an access hole.

Also been leaving the car parked outside with the windows cracked. No fumes in the house.

The 00-05 Impala has an access panel...its in the trunk IIRC. They even made it big enough to change the fuel pump out through it (I know, should be a given, but engineers...). For all the awful things about that car, at least they did one thing right (says the idiot who's suffered through owning two)! Big Grin

While we're talking gas tank horror stories...my buddy brought his 2007-ish Pontiac Torrent over to change the pump one time. Dumb thing is AWD, and the tank is an inverted-U shape to go above/around the driveshaft and exhaust. We had to drop the driveshaft and the exhaust, then the tank. Because of the idiotic shape of the tank, it has two pickups (one for each side)...and even the "cheap" aftermarket pump was $700. We then spent several hours destroying about 10 drill bits drilling out the old rusted exhaust studs that broke off on disassembly so we could put everything back together. Another engineer ended up on "the list" that day.

All buttoned up and ready to go.

Took me about 30 minutes from start to finish. With my mentality, I just don't bring cars to have someone work on them. Last time I did that, it was to have my 2003 Z06 tuned because the shop charged $250 to dyno tune or I could've bought EFI Live for $300 and taken a chance by blowing the motor up because I don't know how to tune.

Everything came out and went in pretty easy. Put it back together, started the car and nothing blew up. Pulled the fuel pump fuse and depressurized the tank by taking the cap off. Really nothing to it.

Really surprised it was just a single 10mm bolt holding the rear bench seat on.
