Hey folks. I've exhausted this and am coming up short. I just upgraded from the iPhone X to the Note 9. I did a full backup on my Mac and and a full iCloud update before the upgrade.

I no longer have the iPhone and its been wiped. Is there any way thats free to transfer photo's contacts and texts to the android?

For the photos and text files you may have to do it one-by-one. Personally: When I went the other way I just left my photos and text files in DropBox.

For the contacts: Search on exporting contacts from iPhone and importing contacts into Gmail. You'll probably want to use VCF (VCard) format. If my experience in moving from Google to Apple is any guide, it won't be pretty. (I wrote data washing code in Perl to clean mine up.)

I'm curious: What moved you to change from an iPhone to an Android device when you're so invested in Apple?

For photos, couldn't you just copy them to a Micro SD card and put it into your Note?

Not sure about the texts, especially since you no longer have the X, I've seen, but never used, software that claims to be able to copy Messages from iPhone to Android phones but I think you had to have the iPhone in your possession.

You might also use Android Debug Bridge (adb) to connect your Droid to your Mac. Adb allows file transfer between the two devices connected via a USB cable. Adb will also allow you to use the command line on your Android device and other actions. Google for how to obtain and install adb on your Mac.

Thanks for the reply.

I think I have figured it out. Contacts I had my gmail and outlook sync'd. I downloaded a free app from the play store and it added all my contacts with pictures and all details. I didn't realize I had so many. Took almost 20 minutes.

Music wasn't an issue. I have Android File Share on my iMac and what music that wasn't from Apple Music was drag and drop. I have a University account, so Apple Music is 4.99 a month. I will keep it as I download a shit ton of music all the time. All of my Apple Music transferred over and I had to manually download it. Wasn't an issue as I have every song Ive ever download all placed in playlists so downloading them took one click.

Movies are a different animal. The one's I've burned using WinX ripper, were drag and drop, but the ones from iTunes will be a challenge. I have to remove the DRM code/file link prior to transferring. I may be able to use WinX ripper, but I will see.

Text's was more of a challenge. I did a full backup to my mac prior to getting the Note 9. I found the SMS file folder (all 39.72GB of it) and am transferring it to Android File Share now.

Honestly, I missed the freedom with Android. I left Android on the Note 3. My main reason for leaving Android the first time was due to poor update support and Apple finally got their stuff together with the iPhone 6 IMO. I find myself using Chrome more and more over Safari now. I have switched from Mac OS at work and run off Win10 now. Chrome was the easiest to keep internet data sync'd across Apple and Windows devices. Files are easier to upload and download with Android too.

When I was in my accident this past summer, I had to pull the dash cam micro SD card out, take it home to my iMac and export the video to Dropbox to get the officer and insurance company the footage. My work laptop has a level of encryption that will not allow me to put any storage device into the port without being encrypted first. Doing so can override the footage.

Thanks. It was kind of a pain in the ass if you don’t know what you’re doing. If I ever go back to Apple, I’ll have the new phone shipped to me and do the transfer before I wipe the old one. Thank god I did a full back up to iCloud and iTunes.
