Wait, we're changing construction plans for a fictitious gravesite twice removed from reality? Look, wife and I took our grown daughter to Universal last year to do, among other things, Harry Potter. Whom I barely know who that is. To prepare I think I watched the first two movies. Look, it's all great fun, but it's just a movie, before that it was a book and before that an idea. We had fun, but it was pricy. I work in the construction business, and there's one all present need when faced with change. Who pays for it? I can promise you this, Harry Potter fans the world over did not perform a fund raising campaign. The contractor would unlikely be willing to do so out the kindness and generosity of their heart. Yep, you guessed it, the owner. In this case, however, since the change was made while still in design phase, there was no appreciable increase in the cost of the $580 million project other than tweaking the design. It added no length to the 125 mile cable. Again, that cost was borne by Greenlink Interconnector Ltd.

Who knows, the CEO's grandkids could be HP fans... and he got a lot of press for free, could be friends of JK Rowling too!

In addition to the obviously ridiculous initial premise, it brings to my mind another question: England has enough excess power production to make running a cable to Ireland cheaper/more practical than just building a power plant IN Ireland? Da fuq? If it's the Green Energy wackos behind it, then make it a wind farm. Oh. Wait. NIMBY, right? Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

Straight is easy. They can steer left, right, up, and down. Some of the drillhead tracking technology on big oil & gas drills is owned by DARPA and is a civilian application of guided missile technology.
