tsmccullSounds like an 8 or 10 foot scaffold would be about right. Maybe you can rent one for a few hours? A lot safer than standing on a ladder on the stairs!

MikeGLII have one of those small scaffolds you set up on stairs to give you a flat surface to use ladders on. It's hard to tell from the angle if it will help you or not, but i'd be happy to drop it off later this week.

Maybe, huh. If you tie the ladder to the bannister and have someone hold the ladder at the foot…? I don’t like the angle you’ll be at much though

Scooter123A) check to make sure your liability insurance is up to date and will cover the hospital costs if a repairman injures himself in your home.
B) Call in an expert. Because if you end up needing major surgery over this it's going to cost a LOT more than purchasing the proper scafolding to do this safely.
PS; Any architect foolish enough to sign off on something this absurd should really be the guy on call when one of these lights needs a new bulb. This is another example of Style being more important than Common Sense.

blueyeI would wait until the circus is in town and hire the acrobats that stand on each other shoulders, they should be able to change the bulb for you.

NismoMaybe look into changing the fixture to one with an accessible bulb from the bottom so that you can use one of those poles with a bulb holding thing at the end.
