House is red brick with a 12'x20' add on room in the back. Wrapped in 50yr old vinyl that has seen better days although it has held up pretty well. Choice of either Allura brand cement board siding 5/16"x4'x8' $1.44 sq ft or LP brand engineered wood siding 3/8"x4'x8' $1.26 sq ft- material price is similar, buying from Menards. I've had no experience with either and hear good things about both. I'm leaning towards engineered wood. Suggestions welcomed and thanks in advance. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

I'd go low/no maintenance vinyl every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Split log here, and I hate it. Upkeep is expensive and a PITA. I'd stay away from anything that needs stain (or paint for that matter). YMMV. ________________________________________________________ It is long past time for a Convention of States. I have Everlast on my house. It's a "plastic" composite with a heck of a warranty, impervious to most things, installs easy, and looks good. https://www.everlastsiding.com/

Things to consider; I believe you can get the LP product pre-painted in a multitude of colors, which may make it ultimately a bit less expensive. You may also want to check with your insurance company to see if using the cement siding, you may get a bit of a discount on your homeowners insurance. Both are good products, the LP is easier to work with. The cement board makes for dusty working conditions while cutting. "Escaped the liberal Borg and living free"

My installer just left and we're going with LP engineered wood. Small project in the back of the house, concrete siding would probably last longer but at age 75 I'm confident the LP siding will last plenty long eonough.Thanks. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

I know nothing of that brand. But I would generally go cement all day everyday including Sunday. Holds up very well and paints well and it lasts a good long time. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

My parents have had LP since 2006 (so twenty years now) on their house and it has held up really well. I went with LP on my own house in 2019 and couldn't be happier with it. My wife and I looked at Hardie and just about everything else, but went with LP. Proverbs 28:1

Our house is 3 sides brick with back of the house in painted Masonite. Awful stuff. When I built the garage we did 3 sides brick and back side Hardie plank. That was over 15 years ago and I haven’t had a problem-wonderful stuff. We are now residing the back of the house with it. Wouldn’t use anything else. I put the LP siding on my house nine years ago. Still holding up well and looks great.

I put Hardie Board cement siding on my house. It should outlast me. Allura brand has a good reputation. Usually mentioned in the top three, especially since it was sold to a Mexican Company. They have expanded the line and have lots of matching trim and soffit products.

I would use Hardie Board as well. Is very fire resistant, and comes in a huge variety of colors. -c1steve
