It's striking to me how there are places here in the US that have just as much camera coverage or more, but it's not so in-your-face as those setups. They want everyone to be constantly reminded they're being watched. Very gratifying to see the people cutting that stuff down.

Those ULEZ cameras are killings themselves when good people try to relocate them to better accommodations.

Had no idea what ULEZ meant. Looked it up.

ULEZ cameras are an essential part of the Ultra Low Emission Zone system, designed to reduce air pollution in London by enforcing emissions standards on vehicles. While the cameras have been subject to vandalism, the authorities are working to combat this issue and ensure the continued effectiveness of the ULEZ system.

Yeah, I should have provided a link to that, first thing.

I had to look it up too. Interesting that in the few minutes I devoted, could not locate any sort of list of “compliant” vehicles.
Only option evidently is to enter a license number and it tells you if the vehicle is good or not. Vague reference to “most” vehicles registered after 2006 are compliant and it is based of their emission standards.
You would think if it is simply by the emission standard, they could have a list of make/models and not have to be constantly querying registration records.
What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

I’m guessing it’s a bit like those sensors they used to put along on-ramps to get the maximum pollution score from vehicles as they age etc.

In the early 2000s, Texas declared that residents of certain large counties needed to undergo an additional tailpipe analysis during the required yearly inspection process. Those living outside of the designated counties didn’t need the extra tests. The city of Houston (Harris County) decided on its own, that pollution was enhanced considerably by commuting residents living outside of the county. The “Blue” city officials determined that residents that commuted into Houston had to undergo the city tests as well.
Houston set up mobile pollution cameras on the freeways and roads used by out of county residents to enter Houston. These cameras could photograph tailpipe emissions and license plate numbers of commuters. Those found to have too much particle emission product were id’d by license plate number and sent a notice to appear at a Harris County inspection station for analysis and if found to be in violation, correct the problem until they passed.
Those who refused to submit and were detected by cameras again were sent a ticket through the mail. The tickets had to be administered however, through a home county court of the offender.
The County DA in Brazoria County, adjacent to and south of Harris, determined that the use of the camera by Harris County, City of Houston officials, to photograph entering Brazoria County vehicles, was an illegal search as no warrant had been obtained for the photographic spectrographic search of the tailpipe emission of each vehicle. Those Brazoria County residents traveling to Houston who received the “tickets” were instructed to appear in the local Brazoria county JPs office. The local Brazoria county JP’s were instructed to dismiss all of the tickets because of a warrantless “illegal search” conducted by the city of Houston. The Brazoria County DA was a woman not to be trifled with. She was a fierce no nonsense DA and woe to any criminals who committed a crime in Brazoria County, a red county. Eventually, a lawsuit against Harris County was filed.
Blue Harris County was not pleased.
Eventually, the State dropped the additional tailpipe emission standards in the big city emission Counties .
