What Did You Learn to Drive In?
1940-42ish John Deere Model L Tractor.

My mother let me drive her 1962 Chevy for my Drivers License road test. My first car was a 55 Chevy then a 1952 Chrysler Hemi New Yorker.

I wasn’t big enough to operate the foot clutch on the “late model” tractors, but I could lean on that hand clutch and get things done. I doubt I was in double digits yet, age wise.

I done a reply to yours. We ate a lot of dust in those days also, right?

Memories of a Nebraska childhood. Those old John Deeres, some with the yellow, square sun shade pulling a little...what? 3 bottom plow? “Chook, chook, chook...”

I learned on an old Jeep. Don't know what year the Jeep was.

My Uncle took me out on the ranch in a field and said...Break, gas and clutch pedal. Told me how to use them and then said "drive"

Drive I did. I was probably about 13.

Cool thread! 1977 Chrysler Lebaron. My dad would take me on the weekend to the train station near our house. He let me drive around the big parking lot for hours while he read the Sunday papers in the passenger seat.

A couple weekends in when he was feeling like I could control the car well, knew where the corners were and was getting smooth, he asked me if I wanted to drive it home? I'll never forget the shock I felt, "Wait, you went me to do what??!!" Good memories! Smile
