When we applied for SS benefits, my wife was told that here direct deposit would be made on the first Wednesday of each month, and I was told that mine would be on the third Wednesday. For more than twenty years, ine has appeared in my bank account like clockwork, third Wednesday of each month. My wife's showed up on the first Wednesday, every month, until the current year -- 2023. This year, her SS deposit sometimes appears on the first Wednesday of the month, sometimes on the second Wednesday. I have not detected any pattern in the variation. We both bank at the same place, Navy Federal Credit Union. Why has my wife's deposit schedule started to vary this year, after more than ten years of being steady? הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

That’s a new one on me V-Tail. Never heard of a variable delivery date before. Never. I’m glad she hasn’t missed any checks and the only issue is the proper delivery date. But you are entitled to know why this has happened. Check out this link which has information on check delivery dates: https://blog.ssa.gov/what-day-...al-security-payment/ What surprises me is that you mentioned your wife sometimes gets her checks on the first Wednesday of the month. Did she apply for benefits before May 1, 1997? Check out the link. If she did apply before that date, her check delivery date would be the third of each month, not the first Wednesday. If not, her check delivery date would not be the first Wednesday. As the link explains, the vast majority of the checks are delivered on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of the month. There are no scheduled check deliveries on the first Wednesday. Check out this link for additional information: https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-01957 I think I would consider contacting your bank in August and inquire as to when they received the deposit from Treasury. Just as an aside, if you need to contact SSA your wife will need to call. Feel free to ask a follow up question.

That was my first thought. Although I don’t pay much attention to when my Social Security payments are posted to my bank account, one thing I noticed about my military retirement when I changed from PENFED to a local bank was that the posting date was typically later. At the credit union the deposit was always on the last day of the month, if not actually sooner. At the bank it’s never before the first day of the month. That delay isn’t much, but I believe it demonstrates that different financial companies have different practices. I wouldn’t expect a deposit to be delayed a week, but …. And thanks to Fed161 for his responsiveness to these questions. I noticed that ours began coming early about the time that the bank announced their policy change in delays in online banking and bill paying. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
