Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has reached a plea deal with the United States on Monday that would allow him to avoid any time in prison, according to new court documents.

Assange, who was facing up to 175 years in prison if convicted of his crimes, agreed to plead guilty to a felony charge related to his company's mass release of classified documents, according to CNN.

The plea deal would first see him brought to the Northern Mariana Islands, and then seek a 62-month sentence that would count as time served because he was imprisoned in London while fighting an extradition to the U.S. He would then be allowed to return home to Australia.

Good for him

Why wasn’t anyone else - CNN - persecuted to the extent he was

Not to mention that in addition to the ~5 years in British jail he's served fighting extradition, there was the additional ~7 years of what was effectively self-imposed "house arrest" by seeking asylum within the Ecuadorian Embassy to avoid arrest in the first place.

Where he'll be facing other similar charges relating to releasing classified information and violating a gag order, albeit much less serious than these US charges.

The original leaker that sent those classified documents to Assange - Bradley Manning - was convicted and sentenced to 35 years in military prison. (Obama later commuted his sentence after 7 years.)

Why the hell was Assange subject to any US law? He's not a US citizen, didn't step foot on US soil and published info he was handed by others, which, AFAIK, is perfectly legal.

The DOJ asserts that Assange actively coerced/encouraged/conspired with Manning to steal and pass along the classified data, rather then merely being a passive recipient of it. That's where the charges stem from.

Also potentially why the next level of recipients (like CNN) did not, if they didn't have an active role in the initial theft/leak.

Pence can go fuck himself - Assange did the country a favor, Pence didn't

too many secrets, and with those secrets is the possibility of every one of them being detrimental to the citizenry

the 'Secret' classification is a false flag for hiding wrong doing

remember - each and every one of those bastards is on the public payroll

the fact that the feds tried to shut him up simply makes it look like he did the right thing

he didn't endanger troops, the government did that
