I’m watching a tv show. A character is complaining that some people get them and others don’t. And that’s the problem with miracles. The problem is not that they happen but that they happen to some and not to others.

And the obvious suddenly occurred to me: miracles wouldn’t be miracles if they occurred just because you wanted or needed it. Miracles are because they do happen rarely and when unexpected. Otherwise, we would call them something else.

I would suggest that miracles happen to everybody all the time. It’s just whether you choose to recognize it as such.

I stopped calling things coincidences decades ago. Too much evidence piled up.

Over the years I was involved in numerous situations that could have resulted my serious injury or even death. Emerged unscathed most of the time.
I guess those occasions were miracles.

Absolutely well said.

I have witnessed and been a part of a bunch of small and large miracles. It's humbling, to say the very least. I took them for granted at a younger age when I needed them the most, but now, I like to think that I recognize and genuinely appreciate them much more. I've tried to point them out to my children, but lately I feel like I've failed with my daughter. Some of the coolest and fun ones are to be present and a part of physical healings. After such an experience I always wonder how anyone could deny a higher power/diety. I guess some people have difficulty acknowledging things they can't explain.

Signified has a great response. If we characterize any occurrence that transpires because of divine intervention as a miracle, and would not have occurred without that intervention, then the definition is set. I see and hear about miracles nearly every day, and spend time every morning contemplating and thanking God for them. I think that focus helps me to see them sometimes. Other times, they're smacking me in the face and I love that also. My step-mom is alive today from a miraculous healing. I directly contribute my own beating heart as a result of miraculous intervention on dozens of occasions. It's pretty awesome.

In Matthew 8:5-13, we read of the healing of a servant, requested by a centurion. The healing was by the command of Christ Jesus, without His actual presence at the home of the centurion. It was, by definition, a miracle. Who knew it was a miracle? Those in the home could see the servant arise, but would not know the cause. To them, it would be chance that the servant was healed. Only to those who knew of the request of the centurion, in essence a prayer in person, would recognize the truth.

Like those who saw the servant overcome his illness, without knowing of the prayer, we all can wonder how things occur, as they do. Prayers in faith cause miracles, and we would be wise to wonder not if a miracle occurred, but how we might glorify God for the miracle.
