I haven't cleaned barley in mine, but I have and recommend the Miele. Over the Bosch.

If not Miele, I would probably skip the Bosch and go to the cheapest stainless interior, and quiet, Maytag that I could find.

Last week I loaded dishes into the Miele, started it, and began cooking dinner. Wife then came into the kitchen, saw the dishes gone, and said "Thank you. Since you loaded it, I will start the dishwasher." I told her she could, but would she wait for the cycle to finish before restarting it. She was standing 2 feet away from the running dishwasher.

I have a bosch and it's a great dishwasher. It replaces a frigidaire gallery that was a POS.

I have done this twice now, two houses. Frigidaire fails, bought Bosch replacements.

We just replaced all our appliances with Whirlpool, very happy.

BUT, our Kitchen Aid dishwasher, 12 years old IIRC, has never given us any trouble (Is that the kiss of death?) so we kept that one. We run it at least once per day.

We bought a Kitchen Aid that Brad recommended. Probably three of four years ago. It has been very good. It was just as the energy star units were taking over the market. Ours is not that and Brad highly recommended get one before all you could get is the energy star units. When ever one of these threads comes up I thank brad again. Wink

Since Bosch always comes up in these threads. I have family that bought a high end Bosch and it has been nothing but a headache for them fwiw.

My last house had a Bosch.................I'd NEVER buy one. They are okay for cleaning, but those Germans have NO IDEA how to make a loadable bay.

Whirlpool must own the patent to the silverware tray in the door. That alone allows MUCH more loading in the bays. Plus the prongs are LOGICAL, where the Bosch is laughably nonsensible.

For 1/3 the money................Whirlpool, every time.

In fact, the next house I build will have four built-in Whirlpool dishwashers instead of cupboards!!!

Right, wrong or indifferent ... after a bunch of research, including reading forum posts here, today I bought a Maytag MDB4949SKZ for my daughter's little house. One of our main criterias was having a full stainless steel tub and being affordable.

In the process of installing now, just need a new water supply line that I will be picking up tomorrow morning. Apparently, dishwasher braided supply lines are recommended be replaced every five years.

Bosch! Got the middle of the road Bosch dish washer about a year or two back - it has been fantastic. Cleans great, holds everything. You more or less can't hear it, especially compared to the old beater it replaced that you could hear throughout the house when it ran...
