I’m trying to get from SLC to Tampa with the minimal of hassle but also not get to Tampa at midnight. Best options have me in ALT for ~ 2hrs.

Submitted too soon. Yep, my question was about any hassles.

I admit I’m nervous about this and wasn’t thinking about the bags automatically being transferred. I’ve flown enough it’s not an issue, just firearms.

Checking in at SLC probably which I’m not worried about.

Just dont wave them around. Should be ok. What exactly is your question? If you follow the standard regs you should be fine.

What are you worried about? Hassle?

Always a greater risk of your bag not making it with a transfer but I wouldn't worry.

You will not get your bags or touch your guns in ATL.

While I'm not a huge fan of the ALT airport I've transferred through there many times.

Are you checking your bags in SLC with a final destination of Tampa? Once checked you will not see them until Tampa.

^ yes. I wasn’t thinking about the bags being transferred. I’ve flown enough I should have realized. Haha.

Thanks all.

The BiG issue is suddenly having your firearms in an unfriendly turf due to airline fups. That’s not an atl Issue so be safe,

Just a tip. If for some reason your connection is canceled and you are rebooked for a flight the next day, do not reclaim your checked bag. leave it with the airline. This is very important in Newark, JFK, LaGuardia, and any other local jurisdiction with onerous restrictions. Going through Denver and miss the connection and have to spend the night in Denver, better know the local Denver ordinance.

If you have a carry permit does it have reciprocity with Georgia?

If it does you are good even if you get stuck.

IF NOT leave your bag with the airline.

Flown through ATL many times, and originated there as well. Never an issue.

When are you coming to TPA. I will buy you a drink.

It seems to me that any law that is not enforced and can't be enforced weakens all other laws.
