Odd how no news outlets have mentioned this - heck when Trump was going to give one they all talked about how it was a relic of the past and no longer needed.

It unquestionably does. FWIW, though, there's something to be said for the argument that this is simply part of an ongoing jostling for power between the Executive and the Legislature. Biden appears weak, Pelosi and Schumer are as ambitious and controlling as Mitch McConnel ever was, and everyone in DC always thinks that the other person may be a fool but they're the one who'll always make the right decisions.

I think you are confused. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. It has nothing to do with nonverbal gestures of hostility.
