A few days ago my Dad passed quickly and quite peacefully at the age of 101. He was still handling his own affairs very well at the time of his death, and although he had slowed down a bit, he was still walking every day for his health. He was a Navy vet from WWII,and witnessed the signing of the peace treaty between Japan and the U.S. He was a fine man and as great a father as anyone could ask for. I'm not in need of condolences, I will miss him a lot but he had a great life and died like a man. Rod

Hi sig sailor- you have my heartfelt, shared grief and a kindred spirit. My father would be turning 102 in July. He passed at age 97 during COVID. he was Army Air Corps in WWII and an amazingly vigorous and healthy man until the first of 2 strokes slowed him down at age 94.
I know you miss him greatly. And that generation was truly the greatest.

When you visit your dad, tell him we said Thank You.... Very few left...
10 years ago I went to lunch with one of the department heads where I worked.. The Assessor department. While waiting to sit at the diner this old guy had a hat on saying WW II Vet. I got his attention and just said thank you, he look puzzled so I pointed to his hat and he smiled... During out meal he ambled over to me and said I just want to thank you for appreciating what went on back then, I told him my dad was a pilot and most of the others also served and it was my pleasure to know them..and meet you.. The assessor saw this, and they deal with many home owners who are vets and they get a break on their taxes... Every year they come in to file for the discount and from that time on, each of the clerks greeted them with Thanks for your service!!

I am sorry for your loss, sig sailor. 101 years is a pretty good run. My Dad was also a Navy vet and in Tokyo Bay in 1945. He only made it to 75.

I just started reading another naval historical novel of WW II and once again feel pride in what they accomplished, and shame in what we have allowed ourselves to become.
