I can tell you how the straw ban worked in Rhode Island. Here you are supposed to ask for a straw or you don't get one. At this point, 0 compliance. It fucked up drive thru at fast food places they just went back to handinging them out. Who doesn't want one? Sit down places, same. I've never had to ask. Never saw a news story about fines being handed out either.

I have a metal knife, spoon and fork that I bought at the dollar store years ago in my desk at work. That ordnance wouldn't pass in my county, I don't think, but if it did, I would just have to start carrying them around in my car.

Hmm...must be a regional thing, where you live. You can get as much plastic as you want around here. Bags, forks, spoons, cups. IDK, maybe they charge you for them but they never tell you that. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

Single-use plastic saves lives. Encouraging people to bring reusable cloth, plastic and paper bags at least theoretically—and probably in reality—results in introducing bacteria into the food chain that manufacturers have worked hard to keep out. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

One supermarket chain in my area takes in plastic bags for recycling. I save my extra plastic bags in a plastic bag and dump them off every so often.

Those little single use packets of condiments were supposed to be the intended target. They are an absolute plague in the third world. They can't afford a large quantity of seasonings, so they buy a single packet for the dinner at a time, then just toss it outside a billion a day. However, being punitive to the US does not solve the problem. Demorrhoids being demorrhoids with their virtue signaling. ____________________________ Eeewwww, don't touch it! Personally, I like the stamping / carving here. This imparts a whole new meaning to the lyrics of Marty Robbins’ “Big Iron,” gently-altered: “…for the stranger there among them had big iron on his hip…big iron…”

"reusable cloth, plastic and paper bags at least theoretically—and probably in reality—results in introducing bacteria into the food chain" This, I see people with the nastiest cloth bags at the grocery. Reusable bags should be washed after every use which uses water & chemicals. I prefer the old style paper bags with handles. __________________________________________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit! Sigs Owned - A Bunch

It's actually worse than that. Last summer, a study in Belgium found that most paper straws contained pfas AND "forever" chemicals, and more likely to be present than in the plastic straws they replaced. Exposure to PFAS can be associated with low birth weight, high cholesterol, thyroid disease and an increased risk of kidney and liver cancers... I had a suspicion that something that changed the taste of what I'm drinking was releasing constituents into the fluid. I hated the taste change so stopped using. Way better off drinking like an adult (i.e. no straw) or using a stainless steel straw. Threw me off for a moment last year when we were in Bakersfield & I ran to RiteAid on an ice cream run for a couple half gals. Girl at the checkout asked if I wanted a bag [for 4 containers of ice cream on a hot summer day]. Sure? I responded. Wasn't sure why she leaned under the counter & scanned a mystery barcode until I saw the 'bag charge' on the receipt. The Enemy's gate is down.
