I think it was jljones who said a really good time is your age. Since I'll be 44 in a couple weeks, I'd take anything under 44:00. I'm also 10lbs lighter this year so I figured I had a good shot, last year I was at 54:00.

I read a great article about a guy who did a Murph every week for a year. http://www.endofthreefitness.com/murph-numbers/

That inspired me so my prep was a Murph a week for all of April and May. April, body weight only, May with armor. I weighed my armor this morning 18.6lbs (I'll add a mag next time to make it 20).

I did it in 42:02! They key to a fast time (until you are crazy fit) is to reduce the rest period between calisthenic sets to almost nothing. I'd do my 5 pull ups, 10 push ups and 15 squats, mark my set tally, sip of water, shake out my arms (10s total) and back at it. The folks with the 30 min times not only do not rest between sets but also crank out the reps faster of course.

Anyone else? (day is still young Wink )

Nice! Under an hour with vest is solid, I didn’t make it under an hour the first time.

Well that is a special kind of misery.

First ever lifetime attempt. Bodyweight (no plates). Age 49y, 10m.

48:57:43

I'll probably wait until next Memorial Day before I try that again. Hell, it may take me that long to recover.

I'll be 63 tomorrow. I did a scaled Murph. Ran an 800 meter, did 60 ring rows, 120 standard push-ups and 180 air squats and ran another 800 meter in 27 minutes and 12 seconds. When the last guy in the box was finished we ran a mile as a team. Had a good time, been doing Crossfit for 7 months and I really enjoy it!! Wife is 58 and did a 26 minute 59 second Murph!! We really did nothing compared to what Murph really did...RIP...

That's what I kept telling myself the whole time I felt like I was "suffering."

I've never heard of the Murph workout until now. It looks pretty intense. Thanks for posting this.

I can tell y'all this from my 2 month Murph a week experience, the 2nd one 7-10 days later is way easier! You'll have recovered from the soreness and adjusted to the volume.

My first body weight one this year was tough, felt like a 9.5/10 difficulty and I was really sore for over a week. 10 days later, I decided to not push so hard figuring I'd finish a couple minutes slower. I hit the effort level I wanted, felt like an 8/10, but I was actually 50s faster and had almost no soreness at all.

Psychologically it gets way easier as well, becomes just a hard workout you do once per week.

It's something to aspire to for certain.

If you look at the "World" leaderboard for the MURPH Challenge you will see ridiculous times in 23-24 minute range that would require both mile runs in 6 minutes each, and then all 600 pushups/pullups/squats in 12 minutes or less. (essentially a little less than 1 rep per second with NO rest)

Crazy.

More power to you guys.

I can do a bunch of push ups. I despise squats, but I can do a bunch of them too. I can run a couple of miles (though not very fast). But I don't think I can do a single pull up.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

42:17 with a vest.

I believe this is my 8th year doing it. My son has joined me the last 3 years. I have a few friends who join me each year.

I do it different every year. Did it strict last year, in order. Took about an hour.

I would take these times with a grain of salt. First, it either says "modified" or "RX'd". It doesn't mention if they wore a vest, or not.

I've seen times that were "RX'd" at 19 minutes in previous years. I don't even post my scores anymore.

If a professionally trained and sponsored CrossFit athlete takes 34-35 minutes to complete it, I'm very skeptical about anyone who posts faster times. But the leader board doesn't show if they wore a vest or not, or just did the half. (Can you still register for just the half???)

Did it strict once, I was like 55 minutes.

I don't kip on the pullups. Not a fan of that, but whatever works for you.

I did it in order with vest and it was 1hr 11 mins. My vest was soaked afterwards and will probably smell soon.

Murph is the only workout I ever kip pull ups on. That said, I have done them all dead hang, good form before without vest.

A vested no kipping pull up half Murph would be a nice workout I may try next.
