My little buddy Sam the cat has developed a odd lump on his head a few weeks ago.

Been to two different vets. The first one pretty much went straight to worst case scenario straight out.

Went to a different place for a second opinion. They did some testing and it came back inconclusive.

Decided to give some meds a try for a two week period amd going into week two now with no change sadly.

I have another appointment scheduled for next week for a CT scan and biopsy. I have enough funds to cover that bill but going forward I'm guessing it's probably going to get a bit expensive.

I have a little bit of extra funds to go twords things and I have a couple things up for sale but don't expect anything to sell anytime soon so I was vaugly kicking around the thought of the go fund me thing but have no Idea how that works or if it would even be worth the effort.

There have been a couple of campaigns here, and I'm pretty sure there's at least one active right now.

There's some resistance to Gofundme in particular, with a push toward GiveSendGo instead.

And that's about the extent of the knowledge I can offer. Good luck and lots of treats to Sam.

I looked in to it for our church, to help purchase an air conditioner.

Turns out there were 35 church's asking for $ for 10 different reasons.

We chose not to pursue on line requests for financial assistance.

( It took us 90 days to raise $25,000.00 )

Have you considered picking up extra hours, overtime, side jobs, second job? I would exhaust all these options before I ever asked strangers for money. Easy for me to say, I know, but worth considering.

I would agree. I don’t and have never asked strangers for money. I’ve had so many things like this occur, with animals to boot, and never asked anyone for a dime. Credit card company, phone call, which 0% will be the least painful longterm. In my life, it’s always something.

I'm in the same boat. My kitty developed a lump on her Rib-cage next to her spine at the end of last month.
The vet drew some of it out for testing and it appears to be benign but I'm worried about $urgery.
This thing showed up quickly and it weighs on me.

Not me, but a friend of mine rescues the occasional animal. If the vet bills are more than she can bear, she'll ask for help on Facebook. As far as I know, She's never had an issue raising funds. The last rescue she had needed about $2500 worth of care to survive and I believe most of that got covered.

Go fund me is asking people for money.

If you know a lot of people, and the cause is something noble, you can raise money.

If you don’t know anyone, or the cause is stupid, you won’t.

If you need money, there’s almost always better ways first.

I was deeply attached to my Boston Terrier.

Spent a huge amount of money on him, his final year.

Eventually he started crying in real pain, without even moving, and I did the right thing.

Are you treating the pet for him, or for you?

I will put another animal through, what I put my Boston through.

Care Credit? Read the interest terms carefully.

Yup that's how this was. He came out for breakfast one morning and it was a "what did you do to your head" type of thing. I thought it would be like a sinus infection or something because it was so quick.


As far as his comfort level and such, both me and the vet determened that he isn't in any kind of pain or anything and is otherwise overall healthy. Maybe some slight discomfort because of it, but not even enough to avoid a good head scratching and head bumps.

I'm still not really sure that I would actually even try the whole "crowd funding" thing, it was really more of a random thought I had while sorting through options.

Depending on the actual diagnoses and cost of things, I do have credit cards that I could use if I really had to but I want to do my best to avoid that as they are both goofy high interest. I heard from the Doc earlier today and actually have a appointment for Friday for a preliminary exam before jumping to the CT and biopsy. I am going to ask about possible payment plans as well and see what they have to offer.

My wife used it around the time we first met. 0% interest sounds great, as long as you pay it off in the 0% term. It was some horrendous rate [>20% IIRC] after that & hard to scrape out of.

I've used Care Credit for a number of dental bills. Your service provider has to request/ok it. We had 12 months interest free. If you abide by that, we never had any problems with them.
