Looking to update my old HT amp adding networking and BT capabilities.
The amp has RCA, Digital (RCA) and optical connectors. No HDMI or wireless connectivity.
Looking to have wireless access to my NAS.

Just found the Wiim Pro, had never heard of it and wonder what the pros and cons are.

A User review would help a lot. Thanjs.

My BIL has both the Wiim Pro and the Wiim Pro Plus, and if he needed an amp, he’d get the Wiim amp, too. I watch countless hours of YouTube videos relating to audio equipment, so many of them related to Wiim products. I have a positive view of the company.

Also, I recommended Wiim products to my BIL because of the videos, and he couldn’t be happier, ESPECIALLY for the price. Personally, I use a Bluesound Node, so not in the market for a streamer or DAC. If so, the Wiims would be contenders. They’re on the the ball with updates, too.

If you want to have contact with my BIL, he’ll sell you on Wiim products. He’s Mr Consumer Reports, and he loves to discuss any products, especially audio equipment and cars/trucks.

I stream both local (NAS) and remote (Qobuz, Amazon Music, etc).

I have deployed a computer-to-USB.DAC-to-Reciever/amp both in my garage and my office.
It works great but lacks some flexibility.
I still use this setup in my garage.

After looking extensively at streamers I did buy a WiiM Pro.

It works exceptional.

My configuration is connecting the WiiM Pro to my Topping D9 DAC and it connects to a power amp.
Control is from my phone app or there is one available for a desktop.

I did bypass the DAC in the unit since my DAC was pretty nice.
IF I did not use my DAC I would have got the Pro Plus as that DAC is much better.

For the price, performance and features you cannot beat it.

The software works quite well.
Another App that works well with it is BubbleUPnP .
Don't know if it is available on Apple or not but this has a lot of multi-source to multi-endpoint functionality similar to ROON.

This IMO, is a Sonus killer.
I am also impressed with the new WiiM Amp but I have plenty of amplification sources already.

One of the things it doesn't have is a local display.
I seriously considered the EverSolo DMP-A6 but I never could find a deal on them but there is a new DMP-A8 that is fantastic albeit $2K Eek , for the main listening area.

But the WiiM product lineup is quite good. Cool

Just a side note: I predict almost every receiver AV or Stereo will eventually have this functionality built-in, sooner than later.

Thank you both.

My amp is 23 YO but was top of the line in its time and works fine AFAIK.
Short of giving up on it, im toying with its features and expanding them.
Just for fun. No longer my primary.

My BIL said the upgrade to the Pro Plus was a positive audio upgrade for his system.

I’m really happy with my Bluesound Node, but I’m always on the lookout for a new DAC. This Node’s DAC is really good, but this hobby, for me and many others, is an endless pursuit. To add, I’m doing what I can to stay away from Chinese equipment, so the Canadian BS Node fit the bill for me.

Ya know, a WiiM (or another streamer) would would perfectly on your amp (assuming it is a receiver).
You just connect the RCA's to the input on the receiver.
It gets more complicated with video and the ever-changing connections.
RCA's will work fine.
In my case I used an Optical Cable from the WiiM to the DAC then RCA from DAC to Amp.

23 yr old amps are just fine if functioning.
Mine is 47 or 48 years old. Frown

In my case I connect directly to a power amp (GAS Son of Ampzilla) controlling the volume with my DAC.
* Network > WiiM > DAC > Amp.

A more normal connection would be:
* Network > WiiM > Amp (Receiver).

You would then add the functionality of streaming from a NAS or another UPnP source on your network or from Internet streamed music such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Qobuz, Apple Music or others.
No longer need to rely on attached device CD or Phono although they are still a viable source.12

The WiiM unit for sure merges a lot of the old technology with new.

Good Luck.

I have one and it is a very good solution for my listening needs. One caveat when using a cell phone/amazon music, is interruptions from notifications. Can just spoil a good listening session. Product wise, zombie approved.

Happy New Year.

Today I ordered it, hopefully will arrive on Friday.
The WiiM Pro is $300 down these parts and again, i’m buying the last unit.
Lots of last chance opportunities lately, as goods all types, are vanishing quickly.
Couple of days ago i bought a melon, today bought another at double the price. That’s the way it is.

Thinking of using the optical option to connect my Yamaha DSP-A1 and WiiM.

If your source is from your phone directly, perhaps that is the case otherwise streaming from the Internet or playing form otherwise local files such as a NAS there would be zero interruptions.

That would be basically by-passing the built-in DAC for the one in your receiver as I see it.
You could easily compare that with RCA's for sound and functionality.
DAC chips have been improved greatly in 23 years but you never know until you try. Cool

Hey Steve, Happy New Year!

Why would it bypass the built-in DAC if i go optical/digital instead of using the Analog RCA.
Not familiar with the User Manual yet.

Hear good things, not great, about the WiiM DAC and most likely you are correct saying it should be better than the venerable A1,

Thanks for chiming in.

Happy New Year to you too.

If you use the Optical Out or the Coax Out the signal is still digital.
If you use the dual RCA's the signal is analog and already been converted from the internal DAC.
When you use one of the Digital-OUT connections it must go into a digital-IN and then it would be converted to analog (if the unit has an internal DAC).
The final stage to amplification must be analog.

Nothing wrong or better with a Digital-Out (Coax or Optical) as it is the next stage that makes the difference.
In my case as I mentioned above I did Optical OUT to an external DAC then an analog RCA OUT to my amplifier.

Older Amps may have a Digital IN and would have an internal DAC and I suggested to audition each type of connection should you get energetic and want to see if there is a difference in quality.
MY external DAC was a pretty nice one and it made a substantial difference.
The DAC in the WiiM Pro PLUS is supposed to be much better than the WiiM Pro but the cost is more (about $80 more as I recall her in the US).
YMMV

Duh! Not exactly asleep at the wheel but also not working with all cylinders either. Thank you for the wake up call Big Grin

The Pro Plus ain’t available in my neck of the woods. Not sure my hearing is up to the task either…

Will try both Digital and Analog. Any material suggestions to test drive? Jazz, Rock, Classical, Soul Smile ?

Thanks again.

PS: You all might be tired of seeing me bitch about the expensive cost of being poor (rich country, poor people) but i bought the WiiM yesterday and am expecting delivery on Friday. Today i checked if the reported last item was sold/gone only to find it still for sale and the price went up $60 $120. Good Lord!

Did you get your unit in yet?

I would initialize it with these three songs:

1. Steely Dan: Kid Charlemagne (Larry Carlton's solo was legendary)
2. Steve Vai: For the Love of God (More guitar greatness)
3. Nancy Sinatra: These Boots are Made for Walkin' (Just because I remember those great legs and catchy tune on her video {well TV back then} Wink )

Hope you are up and running. Cool
