This time of year when it gets cold and I don’t ride my motos much I begin to feel like crap. I’m hoping my new acquisition will help a little bit with the seasonal depression & two wheel withdrawal I experience this time of year.

It’s a little beat up and needs a few things but the price was good and I won’t feel bad when it gets scratched/ dented and enjoyed offroad. Cool

I had a 660 raptor back in 2004? Those things are light on the front end....watch out for the unintended wheelies.....good time though.

Congrats, keep it wheels side down.

Oh and a K&N filter and pipe really opens that thing up

It’s getting a new pipe. The current pipe is majorly buggered up....it was ruined by a few unsuccessful rounds of “bubba mods” which left the exhaist with holes in bad places, a terrible sound and excessive rust.

I’m putting a full FMF titanium 4.1 exhaust on it and hooking up the PC 5 I got for it. She should sound much better soon. I haven’t figured out what I’m going to do for the intake yet.

My brother had what I think was a Raptor 700 Eek
IIRC, he said he had it up around 70-75mph in the desert...

He got rid of it & bought a 2-stroke Yamaha 250 dirtbike (I think). Broken collar bone followed not long after that.

I was suprised how quickly I hit the rev limiter in first gear on the Raptor. I guess I’m used to the R1....and the Raptor really needs a proper exhaust and tune. In 2nd thru 5th it was amazing. The people in that neighborhood probably hated me for “testing every gear of the transmission. Big Grin

Replacement plastics are not very expensive for these quads. I’m thinking eventually after everything mechanical is sorted out it would be neat to swap on the anniversary racing yellow, white and black fenders/colors. Though the blue does look good.

Why does it have two exhaust pipes coming off the head if it’s a thumper (single cylinder). Is it performance related? I just realized I’m going to be taking off twice as many heat welded, rusty bolts on the header when I replace the exhaust.

Worst case how hard is it to have to replace a top end on a Yamaha Warrior 350? I might have come across a super promising project. If I plan on doing a big bore kit on a Warrior 350 and I don’t go crazy on the displacement so that it’s basically a bolt on is it a pretty straight forward process? Something I could knock out in 4 days or less?

Which engine?

I much prefer the blue, but they had a black and silver limited edition once that was pretty sharp.

I get the seasonal bummed feeling when I have to bring the boat home.

My Raptor is ok, I’m looking at a Warrior 350 that might need a top end.

A performance ATV, nice Stick! I like the Yamaha blue, same as my WR250R.

I have a Honda Rancher 400 utility ATV but I seldom use it anymore. Here's my new buggy I picked up three weeks ago, Mule Pro MX.

Bringing it home.

First day on one of my trails.

I hear you when it comes to two wheel withdrawal and depression. I live in PA near Philadelphia and 2018 has been the worst year for riding in the 16 years I've been on two wheels. Here it is 15 November and today we got about 5 inches of freaking snow. We've already had several nights in the 30's and it seems like its January 15th and not November 15th. Most years I can ride throughout November and into December. I'm looking to take a week vacation after Thanksgiving and find someplace warm I can fly to, rent a bike and ride. Anyone got any ideas let me know.

Answer: Single cylinder, single overhead cam, four valves per cylinder. So two exhaust valves and two exhaust ports. My guess is two separate smaller sized exhaust ports/header tubes gives increased mid-range compared to one giant port/header tube that two exhaust valves dump into. While total exhaust flow for WOT isn't significantly affected.

As to why, I've seen many aftermarket exhaust systems for Harley's that come with a reducer cone that you drop into the head pipe before installing the complete system. If you are racing, leave the cone out. Any type of driving other than WOT racing, you'll need mid-range power. As far as the rusted hardware, start soaking the fasteners with PB Blaster or whatever rust buster you believe in a week before putting a wrench on them. Don't forget to wire brush the exposed threads first, scrub off all the loose rust before using the PB Blaster. Or mix up some Ed's Red.

Warrior is air cooled, single cylinder. If you are competent mechanically, and I'm assuming you are based on what I've seen here, then it shouldn't be hard on your time line if you have your parts ahead of time. Pull the exhaust and carb, head, jug, piston, etc. Honestly the hardest part should be resetting the timing on reassembly.
I've had one torn down to the frame before. Mine were electrical gremlins though, so YMMV.

As to the Raptor, the yellow is nice if you like loud colors. If you do change over, be sure to paint the front control arms as well. Blue on yellow and black is gonna look kinda funny.

A Perpetual Disappointment...

I’ve come damn close to picking up a Yamaha Warrior. I’ve always loved it’s looks and the smaller size compared to my Raptor 700. I’m probably going to get one more ATV for my wife & friends to ride. I’m really torn between three ATVs, the Honda TRX250EX, Yamaha Warrior 350 and Suzuki LTZ 400. Im leaning towards the TRX250 because of its auto clutch....it should be easy for my wife to learn while still being sporty enough to keep up with the Yamaha Raptors.

I have suffered from 2 wheel withdrawal since I first took them up some 50 years ago.
I blunt the effects by working on them. Mine, other peoples'. Currently I'm still in process of getting my panhead going, rebuilding a '88 FXSTC motor, and as non-motorcycle therapy a Husqvarna 450 chainsaw to rebuild.
Not really an adequate substitute, but it keeps me out of divorce court.
