Embellishment depends on what the main course will be, what leftovers might be in the fridge, and/or what canned goods might be on the shelf. All this subject to the vagaries of the mood. Big Grin

I love to mix applesauce in with pasta and cheese.

I figure cheese and apples have been one of those gourmet things due to how the tastes go together, but honestly I've been doing it since I was a kid.

A lot of this growing up. I think Mom added cream of mushroom soup if we had it. I still like it. My kids moan and groan at it.

Growing up, whatever was left in the fridge that was about to go bad within the next week found it's way in with the mac & cheese, along with some other accoutrements like a can of peas just "for color".

I like Velveeta shells and cheese, Kraft deluxe and Kraft regular. I'm not sure that's much embellishing since all 3 come out of a box.

Macaroni and cheese (as a side dish), I just make plain Jane with no embellishments.

As more of a main dish, embellishments are a necessity. Awhile back I found a Chef John recipe for lobster mac and cheese. Damn it was good!

Yep, ate a lot of that through college. It was the step up from ramen.

Yeah, That’s what the well off poor kids ate.

We always had spaghetti with butter and grated cheese with some salt and pepper. That and basically with rice also. Parents didn't have much money when we immigrated here so it was a common meal. For an added taste my mom would throw an egg or two and mix it in the pasta.

One of Mother's famous family dishes is macaroni and cheese. Regular macaroni, Tillamook cheddar, tomato sauce, baked. It is one of those dishes you can eat til you explode.
