Yep! I first "discovered" her in "The Assets". When I finished that series I started watching Broadchurch, having absolutely no idea she was in it... what a nice surprise when her face showed up!

After those two shows demonstrating her acting abilities, I've been a fan ever since (I hate her political stance, but she IS English after all, so no surprise there)!

Confirmed: No more Doctor Who Christmas Specials. This new Doctor will not be starring in a Christmas Special, it’s been scrapped as they claim the writers have “run out of ideas” for them.

Bullshit.

This show will not make it with all these changes.

Tom Baker will always be Dr. Who to me, he was the doctor when a friend introduced the show to our kids.

My kids and I quit half way through Capaldi. I was planning on finishing up Capaldi then starting Whittaker, but if it's just all SJW garbage, then I'll just not bother.

Here is the problem. Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor is pretty fantastic in my opinion. I think given some time she would be pretty awesome. I really like how she is playing the role and her being a woman works as part of telling a good story. The Doctor can and should regenerate into anything really and this is long overdue IMO.

The companions are good and their dynamic is excellent. I generally like each of them. However it is PAINFULLY obvious that somebody went down the SJW checklist to hit all the marks if you will. Luckily in this case the cast is great and likeable even though they obviously did the lets include everybody in an obvious attempt to include everybody whether natural to the story or not.

So we have, IMO, a great Doctor and really good set of companions...........and stories that are just HAMFISTED SJW SHOVED DOWN YOUR THROAT CRAP THAT PUTS ALL OF THAT BEYOND STORYTELLING.

There are great natural ways to tell a story that shines light on inequality or social ills etc. That is what good science fiction does. But when it is this much of a focal point good story be damned it kinda sucks. Rosa was a great episode that looked awesome but really should have been a TIMELESS episode.

The "Trump" episode might as well have been a 10 minute infomercial that basically railed on Trump and then maybe we could have moved forward with a decent episode, but no we had to make a complete caricature of Trump that was almost comedic in its delivery. Nuanced it was not.

So basically yeah the writing is pretty much pure SJW at the cost of any kind of good story and frankly that sucks because they do have a solid Doctor and solid companions with solid internal dynamics with each other, I just wish they would use them in actual scifi stories.

I will watch a show with any good characters. Gay, Straight, white, black, asian, muslim, catholic whatever. Just for the love of God don't put them in simply to check a box. There is nothing more cringe worthy then having an openly gay character that is OPENLY GAY in that wink wink....we got a gay guy in our show...wink wink we get you guys vs a gay character who is a great character who just happens to be gay which is totally fine and can actually accentuate the story telling when done right.

But sigh, we live in a world by saying I didn't like character X is immediately met with YOU ARE A MONSTER RACISTSEXISTVILENONINCLUSIVETROGLODYTE!!!!!!! When really I just want well written characters and stories.

Sorry for the long ranting post I just really like Doctor Who and I really like this Doctor and these companions and I am upset they are going to piss that away with what seems like stories that are not stories at all just preaching and trolling for people to call out as being said troglodytes above.

My TV viewing time is already super limited being that I have young kids, and I don’t have time to put up with SJW bullshit.

I didn't notice any 'Trump' references in the spiders episode. I got so BORED with it that I just shut it off about 2/5 the way through. What really lost me was when the guy with a drawn pistol went into the room and faced a giant spider. Then, the door closed, and we heard screaming and THEN finally maybe one shot.

I mean, what idiot would walk into a room, see a spider the size of a standard oven, and NOT blast away and empty the mag?

I like the companions. They have good chemistry. I also like Whittaker's Doctor. She is a good actor and I really like her portrayal.

For me, it all goes back to the problems I had with Capaldi's last 2 seasons. They had excellent actors but CRAP stories. I don't care if they could have gotten John Hurt to reprise his role as the War Doctor - even he could not save the show with lousy writing.

I MIGHT check in occasionally to see if the stories improve. I'm not holding my breath. I'm out.

Just for the record if I have a 9mm pistol and I come across a spider the sized of a double oven in a deserted hotel I will VERY quietly close the door, calmly yet quickly go to the nearest exit and calmly and cooly BURN THAT MOTHERFUCKER DOWN. I will then salt the ashes, find some kindling and kerosene and burn that Motherfucker twice over.

After catching my breath I would hire some enterprising folks to burn that Motherfucking at least semi annually.

And I would never sleep again.

Hounddog nailed it. The characters are so good they could almost be good in spite of the writing. This could be one of best Doctor/companions ever......but let’s piss that away and make is specifically about diversity instead of realizing you may have accidentally struck gold looking for diversity and just write great stories that 10 years from now people would be raving about how good of a Doctor Jodie Whitaker is instead of yay....female Doctor yawn.

Living here and watching commercial TV, you't think that the place is inhabited by a white minority. The sight of black elves in Santa's workshop in one advert, and a couple of black 'Vikings' with dreads in a series, drew the line for me. We live in a community of around 400 people - in two villages about 3/4 mile apart. There are four black folks living here. One is a doctor lady, the other three are an American family from the nearby military base.
