Where to go for Spring Break?
Wife is a teacher and has the first week of April off for spring break. So we're looking at taking a couple days to escape the Wyoming wind and fly somewhere warm.

We would be taking off from the Denver airport. I was thinking someplace in California, Texas, or Arizona.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

I'd go to the Grand Canyon.

The GC will still be pretty cold due to its elevation.
I'm assuming that you're looking for some warmth but without the thousands of college kids drinking until they fall over ( How do they afford that anyway...)

Unfortunately most places will be overrun with kids but my sister is currently down in Port Aransas and loving it so you may consider that.

I think most colleges have Spring Break in March, so the first week in April might not be too crowded. I like Mexico for warm weather myself, Playa del Carmen comes to mind. Denver is the 6th busiest airport so you have many options for direct flights no matter where you choose to fly to.

Coronado Island in San Diego. Cheap short flight from Denver. Weather is perfect year round. Very nice area that isn't a spring break destination for the party crowd.

Spring training will have just wrapped up in the Phoenix area so the crowds will be down, the weather will be glorious and the golf courses will be green. I would head to Scottsdale and soak up some sun.

Too early for the Canyon. We found, in almost annual trips to hike the river for ~20 years, that the weekend after April 15 is about the earliest you can count on relatively good weather, no snow, etc.

Overnight lows are still in the twenties now.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

You might consider flying into El Paso and visiting Juarez. You could rent a car and go to the Carlsbad area and visit Carlsbad Caverns, them pay a visit to White Sands before returning to El Paso.

Hahaha, what? Juarez, Mexico? That is among the most violent cities in the world. Not a good place for a gringo unless your idea of a good time is having a pillow case thrown over your head while being stuffed into the trunk of a cartel members car.

I always headed north for spring break to the ski slopes. Whistler/Blackcomb sounds like just the ticket for you. Cool

It’s crawfish season so I’d fly to New Orleans and eat crawfish until mosquitoes explode from the cayenne pepper in your blood.

I guess there’s other things to do like eat gumbo, po boys, beignets, other creole food, and other cajun food. I suggest avoiding the urine district (Bourbon Street).

Port A is still pretty beat up from the hurricane. Probably not the best destination. If you are going to the Texas coast fly into Brownsville and make the short drive to South Padre Island. It's the only beach in Texas that is close to what most would call nice as far as water and sand go. Great fishing and weather too.

Lake Havasu, Arizona. Watch college age kids in boats get stoned on booze and drugs and do crazy things.
