https://www.eaa.org/airventure/live Choose the Green Dot cam for the main inbound runway. The smoke from Canada has been a real cold towel limiting inbounds due to actual IFR conditions at times. Yesterday may have been the best day as the Conga line to the Fisk fix was really humping for a while and the mass arrivals Moonies, Bonanzas, and Cessnas actually made it it en mass. Check it out if you love aviation. That's the big one, I'd like to go someday too. The town I grew up in - Reading PA - used to have a big airshow every year. Blue Angels, Thunderbirds and Canadian Snowbirds rotated through yearly. I worked summers on the maintenance crew at the airport and worked several airshows. My dad was a newspaper reporter (Reading Eagle), and got to ride back seat for a media participation thing, I think it was the highlight of his career. No idea why that airshow all but petered out in the mid to late 70s. I haven't been since I was a kid, but it was worth it. You get to see some VERY cool stuff. My first time there was in 1987 and I think the last time was around 2000 or 2001. My dad's flying buddies all pitched in and for a plaque on the memorial wall for him after he died in 1999. It sure was a special place in the 80's and 90's. I think my favorite memories include seeing the doughnut lady first thing in the morning and being excited for what the day was going to hold. I loved sitting on the flight line with my dad and his friends in the evening watching the coming and goings. It was also fun to be in the ultralight area watching all the different ultralights buzz around in the calm evening air. Back then you could still find some real treasures in the Fly Market area. I still have the custom nose art my dad had made there for his airplane. The guys just sat there and painted as my dad described to him exactly what he wanted it to look like. My last couple of visits there were a little disappointing. There used to be a real grassroots feel to all of it. It was largely a bunch of working class types who built something in their garage or basement. It slowly became more and more commercialized/corporate and high dollar. I'm sure it is still special but knowing what it once was I have a hard time getting enough desire back to return. Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong.
