I live in a 2 situation probably. There are plenty of times when the doors aren't locked. But, in general, we live like 4-6. Doors generally locked, alarm on at night or if we're away for the night, P226 in the bedside night stand safe. I live in a pretty upscale suburb with some of the best schools in the nation. And within that, our neighborhood is pretty tucked away and off the main roads. And within that neighborhood I am on one of the back streets on a dead end road with no thru traffic. I haven't been in this house long but have lived in the area for 14 years. I gave never been the victim of a property crime here but have had my car broken into twice when parked at work downtown ATL. I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

Where I live and my personality on security are very different. I chose 2 based on where I live. My doors are always locked. I get out of the car to check the mail at the post office. I’m the only car, no one is around, I’ll be gone for 30-45 seconds. Car gets locked. It’s just the way I am from living in Washington. My neighborhood is quite safe. The town I live in is very small. Crime isn’t a problem. The crimes that happen are usually very petty crimes. Burglary in this neighborhood is highly unlikely. Everyone knows everyone. If someone just showed up, people would be watching. I’m 45 and we are some of the youngest people in the neighborhood. Almost all my neighbors are 70+ and retired. Quite happy with where we live. Like others: Live in a 4, act like 6/8. Especially now with young kids I always carry when we go on neighborhood walks together. Cars are all parked inside the garage each night. All doors/windows are always locked unless I'm in the garage or on the driveway. Alarm is on each night and whenever we leave. Plenty of lights and cameras all around the house. Have a few guns in quick-access safes around the house. Just missing the big dog that loves to protect his family, will get one someday.

I guess we are a 4. We live in a smaller rural (farming) town of about 700 with our 130 lb Rotty. She lets us know if anybody even thinks about coming close to our property so I don't worry too much. I keep my 226 and Mossberg 500 within reach at night so I sleep very well thank you. _________ Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right. Henry Ford

I voted a 4. We live in a good suburban neighborhood but once every few years unlocked cars get "broken" into. Everything gets locked up and secured at night, and when we aren't home. Nothing of interest is left visible in the cars to tempt a thief. The garden shed is locked when not in use. To me, that's just smart security, no matter where you live. The windows can be open when we're home and when the weather is accommodating. If we're both inside the house the doors remain locked. "No Soliciting" signs on the doors seem to work about 95% of the time. Numerous neighbors walk during the day; strange cars and people would be noticed. Although we don't have a formal Neighborhood Crime Watch, our lose civic association has an e-mail list serve, and there are a number of busy-bodies on it. Several firearms are easily accessible to us in the home, if needed. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. Grew up in a rough neighborhood, so I learned at an early age not to be very trusting. Current 'hood is relatively calm, but I won't delude myself or anyone else and say that it never has any crime, sometimes deadly. No bars on windows; don't need to live as if we're in a prison of our own making. But there's an alarm system, motion detect outdoor lights and definitely locked doors and windows. Had an old car broken into a few years back; they messed up the stereo head unit trying to get it out but didn't get anything else. Insurance paid some, but I never bothered to fix it, figuring that someone else would bust into it again. Stayed that way until I donated the car to a local charity. I suppose this area rates about a 6 to 8ish, I guess. No '7' available, so I haven't voted...yet. -MG

A mobile home park I once lived in had a neighborhood watch - the neighbors watched to see when I'd gone to work so they could burgle my house. Bring a girl home, they knew what color her panties were, cart my shit down off the front steps, they "dinseenuttin."

I live in one of the nicer areas of Las Vegas. Far west on the edge of the city, right next to Red Rock canyon, and the mountains. Gated community, yet it seems that at least weekly people roam the neighborhoods checking for unlocked car doors. They rarely break into the cars but if they find one unlocked they will ransack it for property.

No choice really applies to my situation. I live in an upscale town of about 75,000. I don't worry daily at all but everything is closed and locked. This seems like common sense to me. My home is 5 blocks from the Police station and a hundred yards from our "Norman Rockwell" Main Street. In the 20 years I have lived here I have only ever had one situation where I forgot to close my garage door one night. My convertible with my top down in my garage was pilfered and they took my Tom Tom GPS and my Jaw Bone ear piece. Nothing else was touched. No power tools etc. I don't carry because....Well I live in the SF Bay area and I can't get a CC permit. ----------------------------------- Get your guns b4 the Dems take them away Sig P-229 Sig P-220 Combat
