I would combine 4, 6, and 8. I don't worry daily but I am cautious, doors and windows are always locked, and I carry all the time, in the house and when I leave. But I believe the overall risk is low and don't plan to move.

I voted I don't worry but I always check every window & door before bed because you can never be too cautious.

Crime here in the Yoop is low. Lived here 12 years now. No car break-ins. No burglaries. My townhouse complex has a large population yet is silent at night.
It is not a Utopia and my experience as a cop makes me cautious.
The risk here is weather and traffic related.

We live in an extremely safe place, but we also have locks on the doors, a home security system, firearms, and a German Shepherd. Low risk, but why be apathetic or careless?

Agreed with above. 4,6,8 all apply.

Gated neighborhood, doors/windows/cars always locked.

Even when we lived in a option 2 (from the [poll) area, we kept the doors/windows/cars/shed locked.

Yep.

Locking doors, carrying a firearm, having a security system, etc. aren't indicative of living in a bad area or being at a high risk of being victimized. They're just smart things to do to protect yourself, no matter where you live.

It's still pretty safe where I live, but it's not as safe as it was 35 years ago.

I still lock the windows and doors at night. A Pit Bull and alarm system serve as the primary alert system.

I live in the woods, can't see the house from the road, nearest neighbor is 1/2 a mile away off the beaten path and an hour or so outside of a city. We don't see people out here and would probably leave the doors open if it weren't for critters that end up in the house.

Between 4 and 6. Neighborhood is mostly quiet and safe though there have been a few spurts of car break ins at night. I could leave my door unlocked and be fine for years but why do that? A minimum level of care keeps me safer and is common sense.

I live in a 4, I act like it’s a 10

4&6 and the first half of 8.

I live in a suburb of the Phoenix metro area and feel safe. I keep my doors and windows locked but don't feel that it is unsafe, I feel that is smart anywhere.

Feel much, much safer now, which is one of the many reasons we moved.

That sums up my situation, too.

Seriously, yes I carry when out - all the time. Yes there is a spare pistol, ammo, and mags in the vehicle.

Now with the latest craziness, there is now an AR and mags in the vehicle.

The house stays locked. It is alarmed and covered with cameras. I don't have bars or grills but all first floor windows have safety films applied to slow down ingress.

The town I live in Texas is really safe with regular police patrols, but growing up in Detroit and having my house broken into a couple of times over 30 yrs ago, it's hard to get over that feel safe issue, but that's me. And yes we always have the front door locked and windows also.

I figure better safe than sorry so always keep windows and doors locked, even when home. It's not a big problem in this neighborhood but there are some real sketchy apartments and people at a complex at the end of my road that gets lots of police/fire/ems calls.

our first house was in a good neighborhood,


wife's car and my truck got broken into one night,

as did most of the unlocked cars in the neighborhood,

we have always locked the doors, regardless, in the house,


moved 17 yrs later, and still locked the vehicles,
after the 2 or 3rd year, someone came thru the hood and stole crap out of peoples cars,

this is in a semi rural very quiet hood,

happened again a few years later, and one of the cops on the street lost a weapon (door unlocked,, weapon in back seat,,)

not sure what happened to him, but all the neighbors that were home found out about it went the po po went door to door,


still lock everything up, every day
