(Not a cutthroat Big Grin )

I want a new handle, it has to be heavy and at least 5" long - I dislike the ones that dig into the palm. Not interested in antique 'pre-shaved' ones from ebay.

What do you like?

I think he's looking for a DE.

My heaviest is a Parker Variant adjustable. The handle is only around 4" though.

This is by far the best and I likely will never change.

I have bought 4 as presents and all 4 are still used daily by 4 different people who now swear by them.

My heaviest is a Merkur but it is also about 4" which is longer and heavier than my Edwin Jager.
Don't recall seeing anything over 4" in my searches.

I have been very happy with the King Gillette. It’s also very affordable.

Look at the Merkur and Mühle brands.
I tried a couple crowdfunded razors, but went back to the old established brand.

I have used the feather stainless for my head and face pretty much 3 to 4 days a week since 2011.

Westcoast Shaving should have a new handle for your single edge razor or a new razor for you. I use them for blades and beard care, and ordered my double edge safety razor from them as well as shaving brush and shaving soaps.

Funny you should mention this.

I was about to start a new topic about the Blades for the double edge safety razors.

The one I bought is a Viking brand (amazon) but it does not have a long handle and I am thinking of getting a longer handle one. Would be more comfortable and easier to control, I think. (it came with 5 blades but the suck).

I bought a selection variety of the DE blades and am not happy with any of them.

Someone said the Japanese steel DE blades are superior.

Any advice on blades?

(Thanks for letting me piggyback on your thread).

Bronze or stainless may be heavy enough.
Only 4 inch though

Well, when it comes sharpness, I don’t think anyone has Feather beat, and yes, they’re Japanese. However, blades that sharp aren’t always the best, depending on your beard, your skin, and the particular razor you’re using. Best bet would be to get a sampler pack or two on Amazon and see which ones you end up liking.

Thanks folks, yes I meant a DE razor handle.

I'm good with blades but I want a longer and heavier handle than my current razor

I've tried all the various multi blade stuff and keep coming back to the single DE shave.

Merkur 38C - Amazon Link

I keep coming back to this one. Handle is only 4" in length. I too would be interested in a longer/heavier handle, but this works well enough for me.

I like Astra platinum. They are really smooth. Email me your address and I will mail you a couple to try.

I like mine too. I like how you just crank down on it and it's set. I don't have to worry about any "adjustments." Hasn't nicked me yet.

Is it correct that they have a mild and medium head? Which version are you guys using?
I don't mind "mild" but sometimes that's subjective. It would be nice to get one w/ both heads.

Is this your first DE razor?
If so, sometimes it takes a bit to adapt to using little to no pressure as you shave compared to disposables where you are supposed to use pressure.
The there is using the correct angle and prep and on it goes.
I would highly recommend vids on yt.

I like to use my blade 3-4 times w/ one session being 2 passes on my head and 3 on my face.

If you are not new, I'll jump to my favorite blades that are still currently made in order of best to pretty good (for me).
1)Gillette Silver Blue
2)Perma-Sharp
3)Crystal
4)Astra

The Pretty Good
5)Shark Super Chrome
6)Derby PREMIUM (not the other ones)
To name a few.

I find blades odd in that it seems it should be obvious to everyone which are best and worst but peoples lists are often different.
I sometimes wonder if it's like a print run and the machinery gets sharpened and people w/ the first runs love the brand and people at the end of the run hate them.
